    ... Hindustan hamara!

:rose:Celebrating 56 years of Indian independence!:rose: Yes, I did get the idea from Rohit's old sig. I also know it's the early hours of the 17th, but that's no reason for not celebrating FREEDOM. We Indians can have a consolation thread, can't we? Vikram.

Hindustan Humara == Our India. India is known by a lot of names. India, Bharat, Hindustan, Hind, etc. Hindu == er, Hindu, and Stan == Land. So Hindustan is a land of Hindus. Of course people of many other religions live here too, but this is a really old name. The name India was given to us by the English in the 18th century, who had to cross the Indus river to reach here.

Somewhat OT: Kant says in his post just above (India)We are best in the world India(Hindustan) is belongs to us We are flowers of it We are the gardens of those flowers Pay close attention to the first two lines- he interprets them separately. I always thought they were supposed to go together, to mean "Our India is the best in the world" Of course, I've been wrong before- which is why I want to ask you which is the correct interpretation. And no, I don't want to score brownie points over Kant- I just want to know what my favorite song means. :-D Regards, Vikram.
