Guaranteed pain! (after having been thrown like a mitten by the recoil). Personally I prefer 9mm pistols or .357 mag revolvers. .44 mag is fun too, but the monetary pain is greater than the pleasure near-orgasm you get when firing them. :(( -- Serial killers don't kill their boyfriends.

You've never fired a .44 mag revolver before huh? It's so good you need to smoke afterwards. :-D Seriously though, handguns are fun. Firstly, it's a fun sport. Secondly, when you're done practicing there are always some cans and what-not you can shoot at. It really brings your inner child to life. The sound, the gun smoke, the element of danger, the sight (fire a gun when it's dark and you'll know what I mean), are exhilarating. -- Serial killers don't kill their boyfriends.

I used to have a .243 cal Browning rifle - great long distance shooter - that put out a flame about 6 feet long at night. Incredible sight. People who shoot for the first time are usually amazed at how very hard it is to actually hit something with a pistol. A rifle is easier, but it's still a tremendous challenge to hold an accurate pattern. My skills have certainly been diminished by going too long without serious practice; Lauren hit more targets than I did, even at relatively close range. Time for me to get out there and practice!

We used to use 7.62 in our rifles, then changed to NATO standard 5.56. I preferred the range (600m) and power of the 7.62, but we get more rounds/mag now and less range.

            > that put out a flame about 6 feet long at night. Incredible sight. Sounds like quite the fireworks! :) Have you ever tried black powder guns and/or rifles? I have yet to try them out when it's dark, but I've seen pictures. My god! It looks like a friggin fire thrower! And then there's the very low pitch *boom* that you get with black powder firearms. You don't hear much, but you can feel it pound your body. Too bad it takes forever to lock and load.. But I guess that's part of the charm. :) > People who shoot for the first time are usually amazed at how very hard it is to actually hit something with a pistol. A rifle is easier The difference is like between day and night! I borrowed a .22lr semi automatic rifle (with a 50 round mag - quite the toy! :-D) from a guy at the local gun club. I shot at a plastic bottle at 50 meters (55 yards), and had it do the waltz for me. With a gun at that distance, I'm happy if I manage to hit the bottle! When I see people do 50 out of 50 points in the free pistol competitions (.22lr one shot guns) I'm an awe. > My skills have certainly been diminished by going too long without serious practice I haven't been shooting much this summer. :( Luckily there's a revolver duel competition and a magnum competition coming up soon, so I'll be spending less time behind the monitor real soon now. :) Oh btw, the duel is not an old school duel ;) You fire at a swinging/rotating target which is only visible for 2 (or was it 3?) seconds. > Lauren hit more targets than I did, even at relatively close range. Time for me to get out there and practice! Women are generally better shooters - at least in shorter competitions where you don't have to use the muscles for a longer period of time. From what I've seen they are much better at concentraging and aiming than men. So you better practice some extra! :) -- Serial killers don't kill their boyfriends.
