I'm gonna be a daddy! My wife is pregnant with our first child - due on March 4th 2004 (my wifes birthday is March 2nd and mine is March 18th!). I'm so excited I could pop! We have our first scan this week (12 weeks). Here in the UK you get one free scan on the NHS at 21 weeks, but we have decided to cough up £90 for a private one now ('cos the 21 week scan is mid-October which seems a long time away). And when I find out who got her pregnant, I'm gonna kill him!  I have decided to start keeping a diary, and a blog seems like the 21st Century equivalent. I already have the web-space, so could anyone recommend some basic blog software that I can use to keep things simple? (I just need to be able to edit pages and post them onto my site). Of course, I could always use FrontPage... :) :) :) :) :)

Congratulations! Robert Edward Caldecott wrote: And when I find out who got her pregnant, I'm gonna kill him! You know - when it comes down to it, being a father is a hell of a lot more than being the stud who signed the order :-D. It's holding your baby for the first time, and realizing you're immortal. It's watching her take her bottle in your arms, and when you blink, she's playing killer basketball for her school. It is without doubt the most profound human experience available. Strangely enough, all of these things have little or nothing to do with whether you're her biological father. I know a couple of adoptive dads whose emotional landscape is the same as mine. They're just as proud when it's their kid going for a field goal, and just as scared during that run to the emergency room. They're just as annoyed when they have to yell "Clean up that room!". And they turn away and cry just as hard when their baby gets married. Yeah, I know you were kidding. ;)

I saw the link to this - is the charge for the software alone or for hosting the blog itself? Could I use Typepad to create a blog that I host myself?

Congratulations! MovableType is the software equivalent of TypePad (or near enough) made by the same people and you host it yourself. It's written in perl and works really, really well. See www.movabletype.org[^]. -- Simon Steele Programmers Notepad - http://www.pnotepad.org/

It's not any monday either. It's first-bloody-monday-after-three-weeks-of-vacation. I really want to go home now. Really. It's a good thing I'm writing perl scripts to sort out texts. Every line of code is an adventure!

Congratulations to you both! :-D Having a child changes everything. It's a truly amazing experience. As far as blogs are concerned, I just use Blogger...it publishes directly to my site via FTP using a PHP template I provide, and I haven't had any problems with it.
