We have a 15" Viewsonic with the speakers embedded on the side of the monitor. It has worked flawlessly for over a year now. Having the speakers on the side clears out extra space on the desktop, and they don't sound too bad either. There is a 'dongle' power supply for the monitor, however. So you have the cord from the mains to the power supply, and then another cord from the power supply to the monitor, but it is not too bad. The picture looks good, but I have not tried it for games. I plan to get the 17" or larger soon myself (my wife mostly uses the 15" monitor). At work, one of the prevailing factors is service and quality. One member of the IT department said that there are some monitors out there with 3 years parts and labor warranty, and ohers only have one year on parts or labor. That should be a factor when you are deciding to try to save maybe $30 between one or the other - meaning I would go for the one with the 3 year warranty for an extra $30. I don't know what your budget is, but Eizo make some very high-quality monitors and as such tend to be a little more expensive. They also offer a 5 year warranty on certain models - including some 17" monitors.

I've used LCD monitors and much prefer a good CRT monitor because of the colour quality. Elaine :rose: The tigress is here :-D

I have to agree. When it camne time for me to get a new monitor, the LCDs lost out for two main reasons: 1) Colour clarity and 2) Resolution - I can't live without 1600 x 1400 anymore. The key, as you say, is a good CRT. I went with a ViewSonic G90fb and haven't regretted not buying an LCD. Now, if they come out with one that will handle 1600 x 1400 at a refresh rate of 85mhz ... well, that may be different!

I use a BENQ FP767. I like it. I got it from Rob Jezek at www.pbsnow.com. Got a good price, too.

I've got two Neovo LCD's. I originally went with them because of the price ($399 for a 17in), but I've been very impressed with the quality. I loved being able to reclaim my desktop from the big CRT. As for the theory that they aren't good for gaming, I can say that everything I've played (C&C Generals, Warcraft III, Quake III, Everquest) has run flawlessly with no ghosting/blurring problems at all. The only downside from the big CRT that I can tell is that my cat can no longer sleep on the monitor, but that's her problem, not mine :) Josh Find a penny, pick it up, and all day long you'll have a back-ache...
