BTW, you can also boot Lindows from a CD without installing it. It's the easiest out of them all when doing Linux. It uses a modified version of KDE 3.x for the window manager. SuSE is nice, but bloated. RedHat used to suck royally but now they are "less sucky." Go Mandrake! Besides, Mandrake needs all the money they can get (if you buy it that is). :) I've never used Debian, Slackware, etc. so I don't know about those. What I can say is that if you run across Caldera it's best that you burn it. :) Jeremy Falcon

Thanks Daniel for your help I think I am gonna try Knoppix then RedHot :)

why mandrake over redhat?? :wtf: redhat is much more documented / supported, and has a very rich tool set included in base o/s, much more than any other linux i've installed ( ive used alot)..IMO bsd was the way to go, before so much work was put into redhat... these days i think redhat is most stable / organized of all the linuxes when properly adminned care to elaborate on why you choose mandrake?? todo.... :: insert inpirational text here ::

I either had to wait it out or just switch to another virtual console. I'm not sure if it was the hardware to blame or just RH, but I've stayed away from it since. Things may have changed over the years and there's always the possibility of it being a 1,000 times better now, but all I remember are those 5.x days when I used to use it to administer an ISP. lol, sounds good, i just knew that suggesting mandrake over redhat, couldnt have been from any form of current experience. I had to point that out for the people taking these suggestions :) todo.... :: insert inpirational text here ::
Now that you mention it... Has the Mandrake distro gone to crap since the company did? Of course, that news is about a year old, so they could've pulled themselves out by now. Jeremy Falcon

It always cracks me up when someone posts these. This is still the best argument for using BSD ver Linux I've ever seen. Ceren (sp?) is a babe. :)

honestly the latest dist. is actually a pretty good linux (feature rich / well organized), but still definetly used less in production , and less supported / experience floating around out there on it, so it makes for a greater learning curve :) todo.... :: insert inpirational text here ::
