If you try and steer in the direction you would prefer to go in it doesn't work so well. I think what happens is that if you steer into the skid the wheels catch more easily on the road surface, when that happens you regain control of the car and can change direction more easily. I did a skid control course last year (I've been driving for 10 years now) and it was great - I really would recommend it - and I wished I did it a long time ago. We got taken in a lot of different cars to feel the difference. After that I prefer front-wheel drive with anti-lock brakes (ABS). If you don't have ABS learn how to do cadence (?is that the correct spelling?) braking.

Brian O. I got my first driver's license today. I got a perfect score on the driving test... I'm ecstatic. Congratulations. But... ...don't do what some bonehead in Sydney, Australia did. He got his license in the morning, drove to his local school (probably to show off to his friends) and did a burnout/doughnut in front of the school. There was a police car not far away.
