....a big hello to everyone. As the new marketing hand at Code Project I figured it was time to stop being a voyeur and jump wholeheartedly into the lounge. This is only happening because I'm finally feeling settled in at the CP office. For the curious, here's a sampling of things I've had to try and get accustomed to over the past couple weeks: 1. Hearing a football being kicked inside the office, and not knowing whether to keep typing or place mug of coffee in a secure place 2. Feeling a compulsion, bordering on unease, when 12 hours pass without some quality time with the Xbox 3. Listening to Chris wax poetic over VB 4. Knowing what the clickety police are 5. Wondering if, for a non-programmer, understanding the concept of clickety-police is a little freaky 6. Deciding it is, but getting over it 7. Hearing way, way, WAY too much about Australia 8. Wondering if Dave's ability to whistle happily in the morning is a ruse, one intended to mask a deep dark hatred of the early hours 9. Deciding it isn't (weird stuff nonetheless) 10. Being rather confounded when presented with the question from a youngster "Why doesn't Bob have a mouth?" 11. Deciding Bob has probably seen far too much, and is lucky to be left in a non-communicative position 12. AND FINALLY The one I hope everyone here can help me out with.... Asking Chris patiently, quietly, and daily, to create an icon for me (and other CP staffers) to use in the lounge. My suggestion of a straitjacket hasn't gone down too well at all. Does anybody have any ideas as to what my icon should be? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. :) Sans sig for now...... Bianca Wylie CodeProject.com

....to welcome you to the Lounge! It's good to finally see a voice(?) to go with the the name. :-D Don't be too intimidated by the Loungers, most of us are a friendly bunch, except for those flame-throwing, flesh-eating, dung-spitting saffas(Don't ask) As for the Icon, Bob in a straighjacket would be kinda cool. C'mon Chris, whaddya say?

I'm sure she meant it in the best possible way. I'm not sure that's possible, but I suppose it's the thought that counts right?

Bianca, Let me offer you a nice big Mentat welcome, and let me further comment that I hope you are only using proper and pure sapho juice in your coffe. That said, I have a small suggestion: Asking a group of young, probably mostly single, and all with enough raging testosterone(Aussie men have a such a problem with this I beleive it's why they eat vegimite) to knock out the Gaia Earth Mother herself, might lead to possible icon ideas of altogether unusual nature. But I vote for a CListCtrl icon myself. Best of luck, and may the Force be with you. Everything that has a beginning, has an end..." ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Real Mentats use only 100% pure, unfooled around with Sapho Juice(tm)! SELECT * FROM User WHERE Clue > 0 0 rows returned

....a big hello to everyone.

Hi Bianca, Welcome to CP and the Lounge:rose: You should find most of the residents quite friendly, although some of us went mad staring at :bob: on the monitor long ago:~ You should manage fine, so long as you remember 3 things: 1) Don't let Chris feed you :vegemite: it will only make your hair fall out:omg: 2) Don't let Chris make you kneel in front of the Servers for 5 minutes at the start of the day:wtf: 3) Don't let Chris go on about VB anymore, he probably doen't know what he is talking about and before you know it he will be teaching you how to code with it;P As for an icon - how about Bob with a mouth, since you are the voice of sanity:doh: John Hudson Nick Rowan enforcing Law and Order in the Lounge::rose: Oi! Well, it's an XBOX, not an XBox. ;P Second, what game type do you guys play? Slayer? CTF? Oddball? What maps? Vehicles? Infinite grenades? Weapon sets? I'm dying to know. :-D

Judging from the other replies here, I'd be breaking the precedent by giving a level headed reply [;P] ... Here goes my attempt :-D Welcome to CP, and extra kudos because you managed to get into the famed 'CP Office' I for one (and I think everyone here) wish(es) you a pleasurable stay here at CP. As some of the others pointed out, there are a few nutters lurking around here [no, I'm not one  ;P], so watch your virtual back :-D (Oh, and while you're at it - get Chris to make us an evil smiley ;P) Bianca Wylie wrote: 4. Howdy Bianca...welcome to the real CodeProject...that office isn't real...this is real. It's kind of a Matrix-like thing. Don't think too hard about it. ;) First of all, you need to develop the habit of capitalizing "techie words" properly. If you ever say .net or .Net, Paul Watson and I will berate you with "It's spelled .NET! Microsoft capitalizes it! So should you!" The same goes for XBOX...it's XBOX, not XBox (Chris' spelling) or Xbox (Your spelling) :) Second, I recommend finger exercises for optimum digit dexterity and consequently, god-like gamer status. If you really wanna beat the guys up there and show 'em how great you are at Halo, then you need to both a) practice by yourself...set the game on legendary and go through the campaign by yourself, and b) type a lot more than Chris, you can achieve this by setting your homepage to the Lounge and go on posting-frenzies often, totally ignoring work while you do this. ;) Third, you may wanna search the Lounge a ways back...there was a discussion about you when Chris announced you first came on board that may shed some light on the type of people we are here. Again, welcome to the Real CodeProject. :) [edit] I knew there was something I was forgetting...I think there's something fishy going on with your profile. How come you get such an early user id? :suss: Did Chris move somebody else to make room for you? I can see why he would though. :-D:-O [/edit]
