Hello everybody, I'm planning to begin a project ( a CAD modeler ). Do you know some good free portable toolkits to build the GUI ? Do you have experience with some ? Can you point me links to comparaisons ? Thanks, Stephane

Check out wxWindows. It is a free GUI toolkit and very similar to MFC. http://www.wxwindows.org/ Chris

A GUI tool kit written on MS Windows using the MS compiler but the author feels compelled to say "M$" on the products home page? Not very professional and made me seriously consider whether looking at the code was even worth the effort. You should seriously consider changing this. In any event, I wasn't able to look at the code. The D/L link ftp://vcf.sourceforge.net/pub/vcf/VCFInstaller.exe is broken. The SourceForge site may have a working link, but at this point there's not much incentive for me to track it down. William E. Kempf

William, First everything you mentioned is now fixed, the links were a goof, my apologies. Secondly I think you're making an awfully big deal out of nothing. You're going to trash thousands of hours of work over "M$", I mean come on ? What gives ? It is now a crime to poke fun at Microsoft ? Someone is not a "professional", whatever that means, if I poke fun ? Maybe you are right in the cointext of wanting to attract a larger audience, and perhaps certain individuals take this much more serious than I do, and if that's the case then my apologies, it's fixed, and I'll keep my mouth shut in the future, but it still seems like a rather drastic reponse.

There is nothing wrong with poking fun at Microsoft or even pointing out that they aren't as holy as some people like to think. Because the symbol M$ is used a lot by script kiddies, zealots and the like, it does make me wonder how professional the person using the symbol is. Besides its getting a little old and stale now, perhaps we need to come up with some new. Michael :-)

Allright, fair enough, given that I was the person using it. But it is frustrating to have all your work dumped on simply because of using "M$"

I wonder how long it would take for a picture of a guy getting screwed in the but to be widely accepted as an aternative for spelling out the word "Microsoft". Better question, could such a picture be accurately replicated using ASCII text symbols so as to be includable in a text-only context?

Jim, they're making a mountain out of a molehill. You using "M$" instead of "MS" is not that big of a deal at all.

I don't know if it's been suggested, but you might have a look at http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/7184/guitool.html
