    From the "chronic insomniac" front... How many hours of sleep do you average a night (that's from the time you actually *fall* asleep, not sit there in bed staring at the ceiling) On average, I'd say I average 4-6 hours a night, leaning towards the 4 hour mark. My standard sleep cycle is from about 3am to 7am. Maybe I need to lay off the coffee... :) Jeremy Kimball

Staying in bed in the mornings is a big problem though. I guess this is the result of growing up on a farm with no TV signal and unreliable electricity. Back then I would wake up at 4am. Now I can stretch to 7am if I have to, but rarely manage to stay in bed after that even when on holiday. Annoying for Brendan. Insomnia has struck at times though - usually if I'm stressed or thinking a lot about something. I'd love to find a way to force thoughts out of my head at times like that.

      Mostly I'm really lucky, being a morning person. I can comfortably go to bed anywhere from 9:30pm, although by 11:30pm I'm starting to get grumpy and feel cold. Staying in bed in the mornings is a big problem though. I guess this is the result of growing up on a farm with no TV signal and unreliable electricity. Back then I would wake up at 4am. Now I can stretch to 7am if I have to, but rarely manage to stay in bed after that even when on holiday. Annoying for Brendan. Insomnia has struck at times though - usually if I'm stressed or thinking a lot about something. I'd love to find a way to force thoughts out of my head at times like that.

        When I go to bed, if I am not kept awake by my partner (not for the right reasons :sigh:), then I drop off usually in 10 - 20 minutes, and usually sleep right through to late morning.           About 5 to 6 hours a night on weekdays. And I don't see the mornings at the weekend because I'm catching up then. So, I average 7 to 8 hours per night over a week. I just find there is always too much to do after coming home from work. e.g. last night I spent the whole evening fixing the plumbing under my sink because it all decided to come apart at the point I pulled the plug out of the sink. :eek: I thought the water was draining quicker than normal and then I noticed my feet were wet! :~ For living in a house that was only finished being built 18 months ago I expected the plumbing to last a bit longer. Tonight I am going to spend my time looking through my NHBC (I think thats the initials) warranty to find out if its covered. (I had to pull out the washing machine, pull up the laminate flooring, and dismantle the cupboard under the sink to get at the pipes :mad: ) --Colin Mackay--

            :-O Not normal is it? As I said - I think it has a LOT to do with my childhood. If there was a thunderstorm 500Km away, but our skies were clear, we'd still loose electricity. Usually I'd spend a little time on the quadbike on these evenings, looking for game or even spiders on the road in the light of a miners lamp strapped around my forehead (the quad bikes didn't have lights, but were more stable on the bad mountain, sand roads at night). Still, by 7:30 - 8:30 we were usually tucked up in bed, ready for the 4am sunrise :cool:.

                  I'll echo that - i recently had to deal with a burst radiator pipe and living on the top floor of a very old tenement block it resulted in all my downstairs neightbours having no water in the bathrooms for over a week! :omg: Oh and i usually get 4 to 6 hours during the week and catch up on weekends (with the aid of alcohol).

                    6-7 hrs. a night, and depending on qhat I'm doing I'll probably nap an extra hour or so during the day on the weekends.

                      During the weekdays, I'll usually get round 5-6 hours of sleep, but the weekends, I'll clock in anywhere from 10 to 13 hours of sleep. That is to say, I won't wake up till late in the afternoon. :-O

                            I slept from 11pm till 8am last night, and I am still frikkin tired. Weird.                                       Around here bas close at 1:00AM and don't reopen until 6:00, so there's not much point in being up between those hours unless I'm out fishing. The days when I could stay up for a week straight to study for finals are long gone, I'm afraid, but more than 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night is time wasted. "Your village called -

Sleep is the enemy.

                                          5 & 1/2 to 6 hours. I guzzle coffee all day to stay awake. I feel that sleep is being idle - being idle is not productive - being unproductive is not exploring new thoughts and new ideas. So much to do, so little time... I suspect that I am a workaholic. Sleep is the enemy.

So aptly put. Has anyone heard of that new wonder-drug that basically turns off certain areas in your hypothalamus(sp?) that regulate sleep? In other words, you simply don't get tired.
