From the "chronic insomniac" front... How many hours of sleep do you average a night (that's from the time you actually *fall* asleep, not sit there in bed staring at the ceiling) On average, I'd say I average 4-6 hours a night, leaning towards the 4 hour mark. My standard sleep cycle is from about 3am to 7am. Maybe I need to lay off the coffee... :) Jeremy Kimball
I slept from 11pm till 8am last night, and I am still frikkin tired. Weird. I normally need my 8 hours, but lately have been making up for it on the weekends (waking up at 2pm on a Saturday is really great). regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Miszou wrote: I have read the entire internet. on how boring his day was. Usually around 6 hours. I rarely sleep past 4 am, so I go to bed 9:30-10:30 and fall asleep in 5-10 minutes. "For as long as I can remember, I have had memories. Colin Mochrie."

Mostly I'm really lucky, being a morning person. I can comfortably go to bed anywhere from 9:30pm, although by 11:30pm I'm starting to get grumpy and feel cold. Staying in bed in the mornings is a big problem though. I guess this is the result of growing up on a farm with no TV signal and unreliable electricity. Back then I would wake up at 4am. Now I can stretch to 7am if I have to, but rarely manage to stay in bed after that even when on holiday. Annoying for Brendan. Insomnia has struck at times though - usually if I'm stressed or thinking a lot about something. I'd love to find a way to force thoughts out of my head at times like that.

Around here bas close at 1:00AM and don't reopen until 6:00, so there's not much point in being up between those hours unless I'm out fishing. The days when I could stay up for a week straight to study for finals are long gone, I'm afraid, but more than 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night is time wasted. "Your village called -

5 & 1/2 to 6 hours. I guzzle coffee all day to stay awake. I feel that sleep is being idle - being idle is not productive - being unproductive is not exploring new thoughts and new ideas. So much to do, so little time... I suspect that I am a workaholic. Sleep is the enemy.

Has anyone heard of that new wonder-drug that basically turns off certain areas in your hypothalamus(sp?) that regulate sleep? In other words, you simply don't get tired. It's being prescribed to narcoleptics here in the states now, I believe... Jeremy Kimball

Haven't heard of it, but I could use it! In some strange way I never seem to have enough time to accomplish everything I want to do. I work the entire day, come home, make dinner, tend to the daily bits and pieces and next thing, I turn around and its 2 am whereby I have to get up at 6:30 - 7 am. I never understand where the time goes. If only I could just "stay awake" ALL the time. I worry about the effects of sleep deprivation though - they say at some point you start to hallucinate

I am a night person, meaning I find it impossible to sleep before 1am unless completely nackered, or drunk, and can get really tired in the early afternoons. Sadly I have to be up no later than 6:30am to get ready for work, so on a typical weekday I'll get between four and five hours sleep. :(

Ditto...I can't seem to get to bed till around 1am. And then I wake up at 6:30. Hey, if I lived in your time zone, I'd have plenty of time to beat you at we'd have plenty of time to play solitaire showdown. ;)

Me too - I'm normally up by 7am. Once I'm back at work in March that'll get far, far, worse though - as I'll have about 2.5 hours of dilation routine to do before getting ready for work. :sigh: Even if I get up at 5am, I'm likely to be at least half an hour late for work! Fortunately, by the time summer arrives I should be able to reduce the amount of time I have to spend on it to more manageable proportions. Tell me about it. I hit my bed around 11 every night and wake up between 6:30 and 7:00, but I'm always tired by 2pm. I think i need to stop being such a productive employee

I know, I did it when I was in college...didn't "see" anything, mind you, but started hearing things that weren't there, like mice running along the walls and doors creaking open and shut...VERY disturbing, to say the least Jeremy btw, heres the link to that drug: Provigil/

I would love to WaitForMultipleObjectsEx(), but I always seem to be executing EnterCriticalSection() instead... [edit]That is, unless I'm at work, in which case it's: SignalObjectAndWait()[/edit] I need to destress my damned life :P

I get around 7 hours a night, some days less some days more. I sleep retarded hours on the weekend though. Sometimes 12 hours depending on the night before.
