UML: Enterprise Architect
-
Hello there, I have being searching for a reliable UML tool and after reading the response to a similar request on the Lounge decided to try the Enterprise Architect.[^]. On the first day of evaluation (just about an hour) these are some of the problems:
- Default code generation directory/folder: I was expected that there will be a code generation directory setting per project
- No need for "OK"? - Most of the important dialogs in the program like the options dialogs does not support the idea of "OK" - just do whatever you want and "Close" it.
- Limited Level of Undo and no Redo support - I personally do not seems to believe in that concept of no redo action.
- User must create project directory - if you try to create a project in a subfolder you must first create the subfolder yourself - just too unprofessional.
- Projects cannot be created without templates - you need to select a template at all cost and there is only one default provided!
- Silly error messages - most of the error messages are silly and difficult to understand. For instance, if you do not select the template for creating the project, you will get a dialog displaying "Tagged Property Name is Required"
- Page setup does not allow setting of margins and header/footer.
- Printing means every diagram/page in the project, not even the current.
- Useless undo support - after adding some class diagrams, I clicked "Auto Layout" and did some few additions then try undoing. After some point, the undo stopped but the toolbar button remains active - closed the project and the button was still active, clicked it and the program disappeared from the desktop :~
- etc
Hope to try it today too. To those recommending this tool, what is special about it? - (please, I getting sick of the Aussie promotions). Seems I might have to make the most out of my brainless Visio! Best regards, Paul. Jesus Christ is LOVE! Please tell somebody.

Hi Paul, I share every single word from your posting. Have you tried Rational? or even XDE if you're doing VS.NET? Paul Selormey wrote: I getting sick of the Aussie promotions Me too.... Cheers. Erick

Erick Sgarbi wrote: Have you tried Rational? or even XDE if you're doing VS.NET? Not yet, I have filled the form to request an evaluation copy - with some inputs from IBM the Rational stuff could go places, waiting! Best regards, Paul. Jesus Christ is LOVE! Please tell somebody.
