Andrew Torrance wrote: who was a drug taking body builder You obviously know nothing of Arnold’s body building career. Ever hear of the Arnold classic? Do you want to know why he's a famous body builder in the first place? BECAUSE HE WAS ONE OF THE FIRST BODY BUILDERS TO BUILD MUSCLE NATURALLY! While everyone else was pumping Decca et al, he was pumping iron. I don't know with certainty if he's never taken a roid in his whole life (because I'm not his father/shadow), but he never condoned the use of them publicly. And to judge him like that because he’s a body builder means you have issues, not him! Lemme guess, you're jealous because he gotten more pussy than you can dream of? Yeah, go ahead, deny it. BTW, just because someone's a bad actor (which he is) it doesn't mean he's stupid. I mean, unless you talk to the guy how do you know he's stupid? Jeremy Falcon

A third rate actor , who was a drug taking body builder is elected to high political office. How do you think this affects how the rest of the world views the USA ? Do you care ? Is it any different to Italy electing porn stars ? Space reserved for wit , humour and correct spelling.

My perception of the USA is this: I don't think the USA really exists, it's something they made up in Hollywood.... Looking at it that way, it all makes sense. ;)

Anyone else consider the fact that another famous govenor of California - who subsequently went on to become "The most powerful man in the World" - was none other than Ronald Reagan..... And for the Americans among us - is it true / false that Arnie cannot go on to stand for president, since he's not a natural born American - causing quite some discussions around my office! In fact, seem to remember reading that he can't serve in Senate / Congress for the same reason, so why is he allowed to be Govenor? Corrections anyone? My guess is because Congress legislates laws, and the president authorizes them. I don't think our founding fathers wanted foreign influence to create the laws that determine our Federal policies.

Sorry abt it, but I meant to support your point :) Here in India, there are people who do not even possess a degree, ruling our states. Religion, political strength etc stand over abilty to rule and willingness to serve. Its a rotten system here and democracy here means elections areheld regularly. So Arnold in my opinion is by no means a bad candidate :) Smitha You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it, however. -- Richard Bach

I don't think anyones views of California will change, its still just a bunch of nut jobs. Anyway, if anyone judges the US based one state's govenor there pretty much ignoring the majority of the US, especially when California is regarded as the nut job state. Besides, no one said anything when Ventura was elected. Arnold will probably do a better job than him. btw, no one likes trolls (yes I mean you) and wrong forum Matt Newman

Yes, specially us weapons and us democracy. On the other hand it does metter how much weapons, drugs and porns you can find in any other country. I would say no more than in US, but in most of the countries less than in US.

While everyone else was pumping Decca et al, he was pumping iron. I started bodybuilding in 1982, followinf it in 1979. Never took drugs, never had the body or a shot of making a career of it. Not jealous of anyone who has made it through bodybuilder. Arnold took drugs, never outright admitted it but in many magazine interviews through the 90's he alluded to it and refused to deny it. Got the Arnold classic due to his enormous profile from 6 straight and 7 total Olympia titles (plus 5 Universes or there abouts) and the fact he made it big in movies (Remember Cactus Jack? Saw it at the drive ins when I was about 10). On top of that Joe Weider (narcissist and IFBB owner) used his name to make even more money. I like this guy in particular, his statue of himself as modelled by Robby Robinson in his hey day. Personally I couldn't give a fuck who was Governor of California, it doesn't affect me here in Sydney. My only question is, can Arnold make movies and Jesse 'The Body' Ventura wrestle while governors of their respective states? erm , yes I had never thought about how many partners Arnie had . It is completely irrelivant . OK , I could not put direct evidence in front of you which would proove he took drugs. Its just that when he had his heart valve operation many surgeons went on record here in the UK saying that the type of damage he had was common in people who had used drugs as part of a body building / weight lifting program . The question I put is how do you think this affects how this changes the perception of the USA in the minds of foriegners. I do not know or care if he is stupid .

.. wait until he's actually been in office for a bit and see how he does, before judging on anything. There have been pro football players, actors, wrestlers, businessmen, and ex-KKK in most every position. Previous career has little to do with ability, and the greater variety we have in that regard the better. It concerns me more that we have so many career politicians.

You sound a bit bitter, Drew... Are you an Italian porn star, by any chance?

If only ! Not bitter , just saddened. If he stood as an anti-candidate (none of the above or monster raving loony) I would applaud it . But when people get elected because of their image it diminishes democracy for all of us . To the enemies of the USA , which I am not , it is more grist to the mill. Image over substance and all that .

I'm not really aware of what happened in California, so what I say is more a feeling than a firm opinion: * it's sad that somebody without a real program can be elected just because of his impact on the media. * it's great that somebody who isn't a professional politician for years can be elected.

I'd say most politicians don't stick to the platform they were elected on anyway, so what difference has that made in the past.
