To change the skew a bit, he's sued for figuring out which files are installed, and making them public, and admitting to make a copy of the CD. Clickety[^] Still, I'm going to download some mp3's tonite. [edit]Their home page basically greets you with a Warning not to buy their stocks - which is funny. But Samantha is a hottie. Would she appreciate being saved from this ugly pit infested with lawyer trolls?[/edit]

No, he is not. He is being sued because SunnComm is too pissed off for being embarrassed in front of the whole world for writing such a useless protection software. I mean a program that displays an OK message box saying "Please do not copy songs from this CD." will do a better job than "Super Shift Pro" here.

Bingo. Look at the comment about the shares plummeting $10 million. There was a RAM boost style program way back in Win 3.1, which did a minor tweak, but the Win95 version did nothing, just a bunch of zeroes. It got revealed. I try to think but nothing happens.

I like his "I don't think telling people to press the 'Shift' key is a violation of the DMCA." comment. I know we are only getting mere morsels of the entire story, but it seems that SunnComm does not have a leg to stand on here. I don't see that Alex did anything wrong by mentioning the Shift key (which is well-known anyway), or the bit about disabling the drivers. People disable things (i.e., software) on their computer many times per day. What makes this any different?

They are trying to sue over slander by somehow hiding behind the DCMA. I personally think the recording companies should turn around and sue them for false advertising. They paid millions for protection that can't be disabled by anyone without any modifications to their computer. It's like buying a lock for your front door that only works if you don't turn the handle.
