The funky cube w/in translucent cube is cool. The "Mind" title is concise, yet enigmatic... i like it. The buttons, while clean looking, are a bit small. The login box is good, but not great - it seems a tad disjointed. All in all, not bad as a login page. Not so great as a book review though...

I recently volunteered to write a book review for a local developer community. This is the first time I've written a review and I would like some comments and criticism from the wise and all-knowing CPians, so that I can do better next time. Thanks. All comments, good or bad, or "you suck" will be accepted. :) The review is here[^] [Edit] Sorry, that the above link is bad. I've put a copy of the review here[^] If any of you still feel like reading it, that is. :-O [/Edit] ps. I hope I'm not breaking any protocol or rules posting this here.

Just a few. First, congrats - you get right to the point, and describe what the book is useful for. This can be the most difficult part to determine, especially when ordering off of a website such as Amazon (as opposed to spending an afternoon in the bookstore reading most of it...) Second, it would be nice for you to have listed the table of contents from the book. Not essential, but nice. Gives an idea of the divisions the authors thought were appropriate to the subject. Finally, you give a short critique of the authors' writing style. Quoting a sample (or samples) to illustrate your points might be nice also. this concludes my $0.02 :)

Nice overall :), but just wanted to point out something that Shog9 didn't: Finally, one of the better concepts that i feel Microsoft Press in that they don't include CDs with their books. This sentence is a bit confusing. Might want to re-word it.

                      a) I'd swap the what it is / isn't paragraphs (i.e. "waht it is" first). Currently, it's hard to follow these two chapters, if the reader has *not* yet made up his mind on what s/he expects from the book. Also, maybe be more to the point with the "isn't part" - bring an example what is in, but what isn't (I think that's worth more than printing the entire contents table, which is usually much to long anyway) b) abbrevs: I usually find it more fluidly to read if you first use the full text, and abbrev in parantheses, and then the abbrev from this point on. I.e. Yadda Yadda Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Bubba Bubba IDE Yanucka. ..which should be not strangers... c) Kick out fillers. Like All that is good and well, but how comprehensible is the whole thing. Well, in general, the writing is pretty much concise and easy to understand. can be reduced to In general, the writing is pretty much concise and easy to understand. d) straighten the "no CD included paragraphs.
