Congrats:jig: I never realized that your country hasn't had a manned flight before:-O Is your country working on something like this too, I wonder? http://www.nasa.gov/home/hqnews/2003/jul/HQ_03227_Human_Concept.html[^] "Robonauts of the future could be used for a variety of jobs, including assembly of orbital telescopes, remote Earth observatories and interplanetary transit vehicles, all of which could require work beyond low-Earth orbit. "We're looking at what new machines we need to build and how we need to team them up to help the astronauts get more work done," Ambrose said. "The technology could be ready for International Space Station jobs in the next three to four years." Later, JoeSox

Congratulations! Here's a link for all the readers: China launched its first manned space mission on Wednesday, becoming the third country in history to send a person into orbit http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A26931-2003Oct14?language=printer[^] Picture[^] Picture 2[^] ( I hadn't realized that - previous to this - no one other than the US and the USSR had sent people into space. ) ------------------------------------------ The ousted but stubbornly non-dead leader reportedly released an audiotape this weekend, ending by calling on Iraqis to, quote, "resist the occupation in any way you can, from writing on walls, to boycotting, to demonstrating and taking up arms." adding, "you know, pretty much anything I used to kill you for." - The Daily Show

Congratulations, China, and my prayers for a safe journey to your astronauts. It is a momentous acheivement that only two nations have managed until now, and we both have suffered great losses and errors to get there. I hope that your country has learned from our experiences, and that your brave explorers return home safely. There are those who will argue endlessly about the value of manned flight, but there is something about placing a living, breathing citizen into space and returning hime or her safely home that builds national pride in a way that can't be valued in monetary terms. Bravo!:-D "Your village called -

Congrats, and all my wishes for a safe return! I suppose it's just a first step, the program must be too expensive to just put into orbit one man. Will there be a chinese space station in a near future?

Congratulations! I've been following the story with much interest over the last few months. Too bad the Chinese government pussed out and decided against a live TV feed. I think the loss of face from lack of confidence is greater than any that might have occurred had something gone wrong. The fact is that with current technology, space travel is dangerous. Barring radical technological advances, there will always be considerable danger - why not celebrate the courage, rather than hide from the possible consequences?

The Chinese experts said they have a plan to launch a space station in the near future and even manned mooncraft within 20 years. Let's roll!

Congratulations. In Britain, your guy is being described as the first Chinese astronaut. I thought that Chinese nationals had already been up with either the USA or Russians, am I right? Best Regards Julian N.
