*just brought back some memories i tot i share* well when i just bought my computer a couple of months ago, my OC'er friend who has a AMD overclocked way higher that it shd have with watercooling. Convince me to OC my new computer and told me that i can take a look at his compt. Went to his place, he switch on his computer, was starting up and then... *computer went dead* hahaa.. thank god for the Demo, phew :laugh: I think if you wanna OC, the most important is to managed the excess heat generated esp for AMD chips.

I tried one, I was so tired after a few minutes that I stopped doing it, I was warm also, but it wasn't winter, so no real use. ;P

keegan wrote: and, does anyone else overclock? OC'ing is as much an art as it is science. I've tried on occasion to oc my Athlon 2500 barton with ASUS 7n Deluxe (bout 1.8ghz) and I can't get a stable setting. I up the speed alone, system doesn't come up. If I tweak voltage settings I can get it partway up, but then Windows doesn't load. Bottom line: I've heard that others do oc with my particular hardware, but I can't find any settings that work for me. Personally, I was doing it from an intellectual curiosity standpoint, and, even if I HAD found a setting that worked, I probably would have gone back to defaults. If you do overclock, watch your heat. If you have a recent, good quality board it should come with some mom-board software which will let you monitor several temperatures- usually both CPU AND motherboard. Ultimately, overclocking is not worth the stability headaches. So if you insist, find someone else who has the same hardware as you and borrow their settings. Ie, let someone else run naked into the woods first. If they come out alive, then you can follow them in. Paul

I overclocked my AMD 800 mhz up to just over 1.0ghz - a very nice speed increase. I also overclocked my Geforce 3 just for giggles, and I actually get a noticeable framerate increase in Morrowind (yay!). Of course, I had to spend a bit of cash on some more fans (I have 2 fan intakes on the front, 2 large exhaust fans on the back as well as the usual CPU and GPU fans). If I put my hand down the back of the computer after it's been running for a while, it feels like there's a hairdryer down there - Come to think of it, it sounds like one too

I am an overclocker also. Many months ago I got an MP 1700 because they come unlocked. I run at over 1900 speed with the FSB at 166 as opposed to the default of 133. With my next machine I will probably not bother though. The Ten Commandments For C Programmers
