RSS, web services, and bears (oh, my!)

I'm in the middle of updating my web site in preparation for next month's release of Tribes, and one of the things I'm adding is a "tip of the day" type thing to the home page. Naturally, the next thought that came to mind was making it available for those who want an automatic daily feed. What's New and Groovy seems to change every time I turn around, which is typical for this business. And so, the question. If I'm going to provide a daily (or more frequent) data feed, what technologies should I support? RSS? Web service? And / or something else? This isn't recreational coding, so I don't care about what's the coolest trend to play with, but rather what's the most widely accepted and expected way of presenting this data to others. And so, naturally, I thought someone here might have an opinion or two... :) Chistopher Duncan The Career Programmer: Guerilla Tactics for an Imperfect World Unite the Tribes: Ending Turf Wars for Career and Business Success

I would go with both. I'd prefer an RSS feed to plug into SharpReader, but there are some people who would rather have a webservice to consume.

RSS. Does not sound like your needs are complex enough to warrant a full blown webservice. Plus anyone who wants to "consume a webservice" can just consume the RSS feed. They both return XML at the end of the day. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Miszou wrote: I have read the entire internet. on how boring his day was. Crikey! ain't life grand?

RSS. Then, as your needs grow/change or the "standard" output changes, you can pipe the XML data into a converter and serve up that. The end client will never know.

Yeah, sounds like RSS is sufficient for the task. Nice to hear from folks who know this stuff better than I. Chistopher Duncan The Career Programmer: Guerilla Tactics for an Imperfect World Unite the Tribes: Ending Turf Wars for Career and Business Success
