1000 trillion operations a second

Interesting article. See if you can spot the error in it. Computer 'will do 1000 trillion operations a second'[^] ------------------------------------------ The ousted but stubbornly non-dead leader reportedly released an audiotape this weekend, ending by calling on Iraqis to, quote, "resist the occupation in any way you can, from writing on walls, to boycotting, to demonstrating and taking up arms." adding, "you know, pretty much anything I used to kill you for." - The Daily Show

Do you mean the comma error: ...the world's largest independent, nonprofit research organisation, manages Oak ... Or the math error: 300 times faster than a similar computer in Japan, called Earth Simulator, which can perform 35.8 trillion (35.8 * 300 != 1000 ) Or the contextual error: are nanotechnology - designing devices on a molecular scale (AFAIK, nanotechnology generally means sub-molecular scale) Jeremy Kimball

if it's 300 faster than earth simulator them it must do 10740 trillion ops per sec (300*35.8). But hey, it's wrong only by 1 zero ;P. "I don't want to achieve immortality through my work... I want to achieve it through not dying." Woody Allen

Jeremy Kimball wrote: Or the contextual error: are nanotechnology - designing devices on a molecular scale Hmm. Nanotechnology is supposed to be able to work on cellular level, right? Small robots fixing whatever's bothering the body. Hence, nanotechnology can't be limited to submolecular scale only, since cells are polymolecular structures. I think it would suck quite a lot if you had to mend a broken leg on the Eiffel tower by hand. ;) I think nanotechnology is a very wide area. It's just technology on a very small scale. I bet a little robot (1 by 1 by 1 micrometers), qualifies as a nanobot. -- Definately a Lounge safe signature.

I'm not sure I would trust a company to build me a "fastest in the world" computer if they can't even do simple math... X| Maybe they made a mistake in the cost of the machine too and it will really cost 5 BILLION dollars. X| X| X| Steve

Except the article refers to "1000 trillion" "and 300 times...35.8 trillion" Steve
