    After the whole Battlefield Earth debacle I'm just happy nobody has tried to bring Eon to the cinema. When I read the book, my first thought was that it would put Starwars to shame in terms of sci-fi epics. Now that I have seen the potential for abuse, I'd rather there is no movie.

      Eon by Greg Bear. About the tunnel universe, yes? If so, I didn't think much to it on first reading. Might have to revisit it. The Time Ships by Stephen Baxter. Now thats a film worthy book. It wouldn't ever do the book justice though, which is always the problem. Pete

        It is written by Greg Bear, but I don't think tunnel universe quite describes the plot. Its more about the asteroid and its people than The Way.

          I just finsihed re-reading the 1st book of the "Nights dawn" trilogy by Peter F Hamilton. Now that is a series that could make a great series of films. Not read any Stephen Baxter. Have to add him to my list of authors. Roger Allen - Sonork 100.10016 If your dead and reading this, then you have no life!

Given it's about twice the length of LOTR, we'd be looking at a series of films more epic than Star Wars..... But by god is it ever long! Good series yes. But a short and "quickly over" ending. When you get there. ;-) The ships were great, with some truly spectacular set pieces. Swallowing inside a space station. Nice! Ringworld by Larry Niven. Thats the book I want made into a film. But, they'd bugger it up. Nessus just wont look right. Or even the whole Protector series for that matter. Pete

                    Read it last year. I've forgot most of the jargon now. Roger Allen wrote: The story would make about 10 movies if they did it properly. And thats a problem in itself. They can't start the series without doing all of them and no studio is going to sign off of a 10 movie deal. And what the hell would the religious nuts do when they hear about the dead posessing living bodies via torture because the after life is an eternity of conscious nothing? And then killing/possessing everything in sight while shooting bolts of fire from their extremities. Oh, and then being led by a satan worshiper. It makes a great story, but its more horror than science fiction. Pete

                      haven't read it, will look for it next time i'm in a bookstore ... but I'd like to see the "Fondation" books put into film;

                        Yes! Great series, too bad about the ending though as I'm sure everyone else thought when they read it. Somehow though the whole series was so good I forgave him the quickie ending where I would normally have thrown the book across the room and then written a scathing review on Amazon just because. At least he is able to finish a series unlike Robert Jordan who has become a bit of a laughingstock.
