I've got a rather annoying problem. I've got several friends that I keep in touch with via AIM. Personally, I despise the program for security reasons. Lately, AIM has had these stupid little ads playing in the program that actually play sound. This is extremely annoying when I'm sitting around listening to MP3's on my computer and coding. It wouldn't be so bad, but they play the ads every couple of minutes. It's also annoying because I tend to watch TV (using my tuner card) sometimes while I'm coding. However, I still want to be available to my friends. Is there any way to use permissions to keep a program from accessing the sound card at all? I'm running server 2000 if that helps. What do you folks think about the way that everything halfway good is being ruined by advertisements these days? You've got spam, popup ads, DHTML popups, spyware, adware, annoyware, more and more TV commercials, billboards, etc. One would think that advertising is likely to become totally ineffective at some point just because we're saturated with it. BTW, one of the things I really like about CP is that the ads haven't taken over the site like so many other places. Will

I think I'll try it out again. I tried it a year ago, but it felt flakey in a way. :| -- You copy and paste yourself into my brain. You always find your way back into my brain.

You could try DeadAIM[^] but its not free anymore, in fact its 4.99. I am still using the last version that was free and I don't get any ads. Other than that try Trillian or Gaim. http://jon8rfc.homeip.net/aim/adremoval/ I just installed this and it works very well. It doesn't even display the box for the ads anymore. Its also possible to just add ads.aim.com to your hosts flie and point it to the 127.0.0.1 address. Thanks, Steven
