I’m planning to create a small company focused on the development of scientific apps, mainly bioinformatics and chemistry related apps. It seems that the most difficult part is being to find a good name for the company. Any suggestion considering this specific area of specialization? Some names I thought such as ChemSoft, BioSoft, BioTek, ChemDev,etc are already reserved ...

Two other things to bear in mind: [1] Don't forget to check the company name register (Companies House in the UK) [2] Don't forget to check out domain names, inlcuding similar sounds and spellings.

ProteinChainsoft DeoxyTech GenoSoft Watchmaker Technologies (in reference to the Dawkins book) Actually, I quite like that last one :-) -- Ian Darling "The moral of the story is that with a contrived example, you can prove anything." - Joel Spolsky

Thanks Ian :-) Watchmaker Technologies sounds good yet it isn’t much to do with bio/chem. software technologies, is it? :-)

Sure. In order to register a company in Spain we have to propose a name (actually 3 names) to our Companies House in Spain and then they will approve or deny it. Anyhow, checking out domain names is a good way to discard a name.
