wma to mp3 converter?
-
Hi, Can anyone tell me a free application which will convert .wma files to .mp3 files? I've got windows media player 9 and music match and I haven't been able to figure it out. Thanks :)
MusicMatch has a Convert utility under the File menu. I don't about WMA, but I use it all the time to convert from WAV to MP3 or to convert MP3(>128kbps) to MP3(128kbps). Regards, Alvaro

Can you convert those WMA to WAVs? is so, I woul do that then use LAME to encode the WAVs.

Its the Digital Rights Management that makes WMA better.
Also, the MS-Player is very good at collecting all sorts of
usefull data and will push many of interesting third
party information on the users screen. This is at least what Microsoft and the Music industry thinks about it.
Who is 'General Failure'? And why is he reading my harddisk?!?

Yup, I agree but that's not the benefit using WMA... about DRM, actually I don't like it.. because sometimes can trouble me so much. for example, I have the original CD, I rip it into WMA files and burn it to disc with coypright protection setting is enable. When I tried to play it on other PC, It stops... and saying something about DRM. What I means, is there any benefit from the quality or maybe reducing file size? :) "Courage choose who will follow, Fate choose who will lead" - Lord Gunner, Septerra Core "Press any key to continue, where's the ANY key ?" - Homer Simpsons Drinking gives me amazing powers of insight. I'd use either the diskwriting function of foobar2000 and LAME the files manually. Or use the builtin CLI encoding w/ LAME in foobar2000. But you should know that transcoding (converting from one lossy format to another) is evil and reduces quality quite much. But if you are forced to do it for say a portable, it's ok.

Actually, my comment was meant to be sarcastic. There seem to be no benefits from WMA. Only the Music industry can have an interest in DRM (preventing lending of song files), and only MS can have an interest in spying on the customers and pushing advertisements on the users computers. For all other purposes, MP3 is better and there are a lot good players around. Noone nedds WMA (or AAC, for that matter)
