Need your opinion for job change!!!

Hey guys! I currently work at a major software corporation in Canada for almost a year now. Many people envy my salary and the fact that it's "cool" to work at this company. At first I thought about working here for the next 20 years, y'know, the big carreer and all. But as time passed, I figured out that there're other things than that... By the way, I had to move from my hometown (which I liked) to work here. So I have two choices: :confused: stay here with a nice salary, overtime pretty much everyday, with a town that I don't like that much (it's nice though, I could manage to live here). Houses cost more, life costs more... -OR- go back to my hometown where a job as a developer in a consultant firm awaits. The salary is about 2/3 of what I am currently making, but I wouldn't make as much overtime (actually it'd be payed, I am currently paid weekly and not hourly), less distance from my house to work, the mountains are 20 minutes away, nature is great there and my family and friends are there too! Houses costs less, life costs less (about 10% less). Might I add it's a great place to start a company (maybe in a few years) since there's not that many there... It pretty much comes down to money unfortunately, which I think sucks because it shouldn't be my main concern. I'm sure some of you guys have made that kind of decision and I'd like to know about it... Thanks! :)

You go where you need to go, and do what you need to do. And only you can define those two things. It appears as if you're talking yourself into moving back home. If that's where you'd rather be, then by all means, move back home. Consider the job itself. Is it fun? Are the projects challenging? Are you learning new things? Is it a pleasant environment? You spend a lot of time at work (and in your case extra time), so it's very important that you like it. I've always tried to make my job moves with a greater or equal salary. If you don't do that you'll always be thinking, "You know, I could be making more money... and then I could afford that BMW M3, etc...". Still, that hometown life that you describe does sound pretty nice... I think if I were you I'd go for it, provided the job itself is at least as good as the old one, just like I mentioned above. Thanks guys! Yes I feel challenged by the new job. Actually, when I went back to finish my computer science degree, it was so I could work at that consultant's firm (a friend of mine used to work there, but then he moved to Paris). But things did not go as they were supposed to and I landed here. I am very fortunate to have the job that I have right now and I may never get that chance again, that's why it's not that obvious to make a decision! I'm having the 2nd interview on monday, and they want to hire me. Honestly, as long as I make a good living, I don't care much for salary... well I guess I do because everybody is saying: "but think of the salary!"... AHHHRG! I'm brainwashed by capitalism! :mad:

My job is 10 minutes away from home and I'm very comfortable here. It pays a lot less than jobs further away. If I had to commute I would spend 2-4 hours a day driving. I think that would eat up any differences in salary. If I lived there, my housing and daycare costs would triple. I have 2 kids and a wonderful husband. For me spending time with my family is more important than a higher salary. If you don't have kids I could see how the salary would be more important than personal time. Cathy

These guys are obviously bs'ing you if they say that money doesn't matter. Money allows you to increase your lifestyle so that you can enjoy it more. Which would you rather do...sit in front of the tv, or go for a 2 week trip to Paris. I choose and chose Paris. My wife and I feel that you should work hard now so you can play hard later. You list 1 positive and 4 negatives for your current job, and a whole paragraph full of positives for the job you seem to want to go back to.
