So long, AIM.

Hello, Trillian. Thanks to all those who have recommended Trillian in the past. This morning gave me the final reason I needed to take the time to switch when, while listening to some music, the annoying murmur of an advertisement came over my speakers. I was baffled to find it coming from AIM and when I went to stop it, it displayed a popup ad. So long AIM, I'm not looking back. :suss: Marcus Spitzmiller "Why must life be so hard? While it seems to go without saying that marketing types are intellectually challenged beings from another galaxy, I still wonder just what these clowns are thinking when they design marketing campaigns like this. Can they really think that irritating/pissing off potential customers is the way to sell a product?

Do you mean the way the increase the sound level during adverts so you reach for the remote control instead of watching the advert ? Elaine (growling fluffy tigress) The tigress is here :-D

You know what is amusing? Just as I finished reading your message AIM started playing one of those stupid advertisements for me. Signature under construction.

its because they expect you to leave the room to go to the kitchen or the toilet or something.

Define free. Sure AIM doesn't cost money, but what I got today was an, albeit small, hidden cost of lost time and wasted concentration. Not only that, but I can mute commercials on tv and radio, but AIM doesn't allow for this except to completely turn off the product. Or maybe I'm wrong, and AOL gives out this product for nothing, out of the kindness of their collective hearts. I'm so glad AOL loves me. Marcus Spitzmiller "Why must life be so hard? Of course it is free. You are free to use it or not. Quit being precious. Don't get me wrong, audio ADs like what you received are quite daft. It is going to loose AIM users (mindshare, or whatever the newest buzzword for that is) like you. Visual ADs can be ignored reasonably well, audio not so. That "lost time and wasted concentration" arguement against free software is really terrible. It reminds me of the people who posted rants on the quality of some things on CP, were replied to and then claimed CP costs them connection fees, their time and god knows what else. Free world buddy. I guess I have never enjoyed rants against free software. You know the deal when you start using it. By all means email AOL and inform them that their latest idea is not a good one, point it out fairly and move on. Don't act like you forked over money and got screwed. That was my free opinion. ;) regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Christopher Duncan quoted: "All Corvettes are red. Everything else is just a mistake." Crikey! ain't life grand? Yep, and while I'm on the pot, hearing commercials, I think, "Boy, that pizza sure would be great right now!" "I'd be up a piece if I hadn't swallowed my bishop." Mr. Ed, playing chess

Just as annoying are the banner ads that activate a Flash popup on a mouse roll over and have the close box positioned so it is on top of another banner ad that activates a 2nd flash popup... Steve
