Its been confirmed that there is quite a bit of water on Mars, by the Mars Express orbiter probe. Thing is there is water also on Europa around Jupiter, and also another icy moon around Saturn, not unlike Europa unless I'm mistaken. Thing is when do you people think life will be found out there? In your life times? I certanly hope so, and am a beliver that statistically there has to be. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3426539.stm[^] Saying that statistically you could say they there is none, if you agree like I do that UFO's are probably just nutters imaginations, or secret military coverups, which are also the imaginations of nutters.

We will find life eventually, I'm sure. But we won't find intelligent life. Intelligent beings are smart enough to stay away from us, given our current track record. :) -- C'est normal!

if life is found it will be some sort of microbe type thing, and unfortunately, the fact that it is there will be blamed upon contamination from past missions.

It seems we both share the same set of observations of mankind. :) At least the following seems to hold on these matters: ColinOoM Ç JörgenOoM » ColinOoM È JörgenOoM It's hard not to see the blinding truth. -- C'est normal!

Yeah, The duration of time that mankind can be both peaceful and have interstellar travel capabilities will be either short, or non existant. So it's easy to consider that for aliens in close proximity it will be similar. The chances of beings from more than one system encountering each other, become infintesimally small. - One current line of thinking in Genetics shows that Y chromosome carriers will become extinct in 100,000 yrs (short time period) which means mankind will be replaced by a form of LesbianKind if it is to continue. While this doesn't show the end of humanity is so close it does show the fragile state of humanity. As our population blossoms above 6 Billion, the chances of us becoming wiped out by an exotic SARS like disease increase exponentially, and the global pollution problems increase with strengthened half lifes, Hell, we are more likely to send humanity back to the dark ages this millennium then to enter another solar system. I know Paul is going to pick on me for this, but I believe you hit the nail on the head on this one. It does not matter if there are visionaries in this world, thinking forward for themselves and mankind. They're still a minority in the order of 1:1,000,000 (I'm being optimistic now) HIV, SARS, Mad Cow Desease, and Ebola are just the beginning. And in the end, it will not matter whether if you're christian, muslim, buddhist, what have you, you'll be in the same sinking ship as your next. But with a little luck, and a little bit of optimism, perhaps a dark age is what mankind needs. I mean, it is possible to learn from your mistakes. :) -- Pass the jam, would you?
