Trosper said the "too many files" problem was the current leading theory for why Spirit failed last week. She said mission planners had not expected the rover's flash memory to accumulate so many data files during its trip to Mars and investigations on the surface. "This is a new problem that we've encountered, based on having many files," she said. How could this happend? they didn't think about number of files,pictures,.. they wanted store or proccess there? Mazy No sig. available now.

told them they should have used linksys wireless 8011.g routers , the 4 port hub firewall kinda of thing, with the latest patch. Then they could have remotely logged in using the Terminal server taken control of the whole thing. Be careful to log off and not shutdown other wise you had it :) ---- KM

Is this the old issue with storage devices manufacturers counting 1KB as 1000 bytes while scientists thought that they have 24 more bytes per kilobyte? :)

A very expensive (and far away) piece of equipment fails because none of the programmers trapped the error condition of "max number of files". That's about as close to 'Programming 101' as it gets. Glad to see that NASA follows the same strict and comprehensive QA procedures found in the rest of the corporate software industry. No, wait, spacecraft are built by the lowest corporate bidder... Christopher Duncan Today's Corporate Battle Tactic Unite the Tribes: Ending Turf Wars for Career and Business Success The Career Programmer: Guerilla Tactics for an Imperfect World
