Oh yes Ravi, you are so right. Really the use of language has just degenerated into a free for all of Orwellian proportions. What can we do about it? How can we educate our fellow inverterbrates as to the benefit of the Queen mums English? How on Earth have we gotten to this terrible state... :laugh: Along with misspellings and bad grammar (especially in user documentation) Japanese and Chinese translations are the absolute best. I love reading the instruction manual for new Korean HiFi products. I can myself laughing. "Do not use hair dryer while asleep" or "Does not work under water" :laugh: I think though that we can give leeway to gramatical use on the Lounge, at least. Otherwise we restrict our god given right to be opiniated and vocal about those opinions. Plus we have quite an international group of people on CP, not all of who have English as their primary language. I was just thinking that many of the regulars at Code Project know each other pretty well, but I was wondering about those that have just discovered CodeProject. Are you sitting back, mouth agape, wondering what this is all about, or just watching the inmates in a bemused fashion while you find your way around? Well at first I thought "maybe I should write the Ff statement in C++ just for all the simple undeducated folk out there who don't understand the beauty of VB", but then I thought "naaaah, let them suffer and wonder". :-D Actually I happen to do way too much JavaScripting so I know all about the phuketing annoying difference between == and =. The number of times I get caught out by that is beyond belief. Do you have any idea why they implemented C++ and Java like that? Why not just = and not ==? Didn't you miss the "end if". Once again VB shows it's beauty. You don't need an End If if it is one one line. i.e.

I'm back at a normal job now. 2 years in startup land didn't bring the financial rewards I was expecting :) but the experience was well worth the 16 hour days imho. Hi, I'm a CAD/CAM software engineer. I'm using CodeProject since the beginning ( Member Since Thursday 6th July, 2000 ) , but the last 2 years, I only used it on work, and because of the cookies ( cookies were disabled in the Cie ), I couln'd use the forums, and couldn't log me in. Today, I'm living in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I'm seeking a job in the CAD/CAM industry or 3d software ( if you have one, you can contact me ;-) ). I'm planning to developp a free CAD/CAM Solid Modeler ( http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/exotk ) using OpenCASCADE ( www.opencascade.org / www.opencascade.com ). Greetings from Ireland, I discovered CodeProject well over a year ago, when I was learning C++. Then the company decided they wanted me to do (yaaawwwwwn) ASP, so I changed job - now I use Delphi :confused:. The articles used to be realy interesting, but I have absolutely no interest in all things .NET. But, the lounge is definitely the place to visit when feeling a little bored/stressed. Laurence We aim to make the complex simple, and the simple idiot-proof; we just don't aim too good.

I'm unsure which APL you are talking about, I learn't APL (A Programming Language) at age 13, Our teacher liked it because he didn't have to buy many punch cards :-) Later I found learning Assembler Instructions easy compared to APL :-) If it's the same APL you are right it is elegant :-) It is what I would call a write once lingo, You never want to edit/debug it. :-) Regardz Colin J Davies P.S I need beta testers for VMTU.

Hi! I'm Luca from Bari, a really nice place in the south of Italy. I am not really new to CP, since it's nearly a year that I use it... You are great! Now I discovered how funny is reading the Lounge... here there aren't many programmers, or maybe since I'm seventeen many of my friends are not really interested in using the PC for something more than games... :) I'm working on a program to display maths functions and to do a little study upon them - nothing really new and Derive is simply inimitable, but hey I learned a lot writing this program!!! It is called Equation Editor. Although my site is in Italian, this software is available both in Italian and English... maybe you can give it a try, but consider that the online version is nearly half a year old. I don't seem able to finish anything! Every time I reach 90% of development, something forces me to rewrite it from scratch!!! Is this a common issue? Or that's just me being lazy? :) :) :) When I feel too stressed to work on this software, I use eJay to create some dance/techno songs. Nothing really great, but I'm learning... :) Ok I have finished this nonsense message (BTW, my first post)... bye and thanks to all!!! I had a job interview years ago, and the interviewer thought I was taking the Piss when I said I had some APL experience. (The Noddy didn't believe the lingo existed. I've been here (CP) around a month, but i'm quite new to the lounge. I'm a 19-year old student from Wales, UK. I've always enjoyed programming and the rewards it brings, much to the amusement of my fellow classmates. Started programming with AMOS on my amiga about 10 years ago. After about a year, i sold it, and didn't program again until around 3 years ago, where Pascal was introduced at college. I got into C++ in my spare time, and have recently warmed to MFC, which i'm really enjoying because it's improving my c++ skills simultaneously. So, hello to anyone reading this. It's a nice little community you've got here. :) --- Simon decided that his 'ironlung' nickname sounded kinda stupid, so he decided to use his real name
