Hi All, I am out shopping for laptop, and kinda confused. I found listing of differnt P4 series processors on dell's website, but unable to decide which one to go for. Any recommendations - http://www1.us.dell.com/content/learnmore/learnmore.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~id=cpu&~line=notebooks&~lt=popup&~series=inspn Thanks.

Few months back I was faced with same question, and I went with a Toshiba with a 2.8GHz desktop CPU. I went this way because my need did not call for long battery life, or light laptop, but I really needed some CPU power to do all the development I need. You should first decide on what is it that you need, and then go out to major laptop manufacturers and decide on a model. BTW Dell does not always have best prices for what you are after. Peter

Pentium M. It's kind of an anomaly in that it's a lower power chip that, at 1.6 GHz, has performance on par with a 2.4 GHz desktop P4. Combined with a good video card you can get a lightweight laptop with great battery life and near-desktop performance. Excellent balance. I have a T40p[^] and I'm continually impressed by how well it performs (all around).

Make sure you compare the prices for the home site with the small business. Sometimes they can have signifigantly different prices for the same system. That is if you stick with Dell.

Maybe you will be able to explain the following to me then, my IT deparment at work want to swap out my Compaq E610 which reports it has a P4-M @ 2GHz with a Dell P4-Mobile @ 1.4GHz. The swap is necessary if I want to run multiple screens with docking station but I'm holding it up because I don't think a P4-M and P4-Mobile are about the same (their statement, not mine). Regards, Ray
