S-ATA or IDE?

What do you guys think? If I'm going to buy a new HD AND a controller card for it, should I go for S-ATA or for IDE? greetz ;-) *Niels Penneman*

If you really wanna stock up on the next technology, yes, go with SATA. Supposedly they want SATA to become stndard manufacturing in about a years or so.

Let the price influence the choice. If they are about the same go for the SATA (which actually still is IDE.) If the SATA is noticably more you may want to stay with the older IDE (which really is parallel ATA). What noticably more is dependant on how much fun money vs need money you have. :) Serial is better than parallel, More buffer memory is better than less, etc. I have one SATA drive in my main unit and yes it is better but not drastically better, IMhO. I have never done a test on boot time etc? maybe I should mirror it and test it with my test box. New Sig Time

I've been using SATA for a few months now and my hair has been shiny and dandruff free.

Do not confuse SATA with SATAN.. ;) -- So let's just walk from place to place, as long as we don't talk face to face.

Get a 10k RPM SATA drive. WD Raptor Review If nothing else, the cables are thinner and allow more airflow inside the case.

You will endup paying more for SATA drive, but you will get a better HD performance. On average you will pay about 10-15% for SATA drive over its ATA equivalent. As it was mentioned before on this forum, you should let your pocket guide you. You should choose a drive that will provide most of what you need for the money. Peter

Personally, if you are getting a S-ATA HDD like that WD Rapter, then go ahead. Else, most benchmarks shows that S-ATA HDD performs similar or slighly worst then their IDE counterparts. Not sure why. Unless you are a case mod or OC where the thickness of the cable and airflow will be a concern, you might be better off getting IDE since it is cheaper and perform relatively the same? just an opinion. :)
