What would you be if you weren't doing what you are doing now?

Did you always want to be in the kind of work you are doing now? What other lines of work would you like to do? When I was a little boy I always wanted to be a fireman and then as I got older I wanted to be an astronaut. However poor health stopped me from pursuing those careers. Computers seemed the next best thing. If I wasn't a developer (and I may not be doing this for much longer), I'd quiet like to get into the field of psychology. Michael :-)

I'd probably be a scientist of some kind. The field of physics is the most interesting, but I would also enjoy working in microbiology or chemistry quite a bit. :D On second thought, if money in the music industry wasn't based on teaching or popular votes, I just might be a composer. It's a fun hobby. John

Well, when things get really complicated and confusing (as in "why on earth is that bit of software doing THAT ????" ) I sometimes think that being a farmer and just planting potatoes for a living is infinitely more simple. Then again I suppose that farmers have their own set of problems. On general principles the astronaut business seems tempting. Making wine on a professional basis seems a good idea as well (at least from experience I know that as a hobby it is quite relaxing and it has the bonus of a good supply of wine that can be enjoyed when you are seriously relaxing). When I set out on my career I was pretty introverted and very much a "things" person. These days, I'm more outgoing, so something which involves more personal contact with others would be a plus (some days I detest staring at a screen all day!). I think I would be unemployable or doing menial work :eek:. I fell into programming by accident, but its the perfecto job for me:) I just love to think about those convoluted programming loops! I even do debugging while asleep! I fixed my most difficult bug once while I was sleeping. I just woke up in the middle of the night going aha! :rolleyes: I was so proud of myself:laugh: Roger Allen the :) man

I wanted to be an architect for a long time. One day, once I have made my millions, I will go about designing my own house. I already have some 3D Studio Max files of the kind of house I want. :-O this is personal stuff! But if I had not taken an interest in computers I might have become a safari or river guide. I wouldn't have settled for just being the pleb who handles the boats though, I would have tried to make my own business out of it. Good business in that market here in South Africa.
