South African rugby

I agree that South African rugby is not up to standard and certainly not what it used to be, but I do think our rugby is at a better standard than NZ refs. The two blunders (sending Davidson off, penalty at the end)made by Steve Welsh cost the sharks the game, and gave the brumbies valueble points. Funny how the australians don't seem to mind... check out two reports, one from SA and one from australia. Seems like they are talking about two different games here... http://www.superrugby.co.za/default.asp?aid=108242&sportCategory=superrugby/super12 http://rugbyheaven.smh.com.au/articles/2004/03/06/1078464701681.html?oneclick=true

Blunders? Phfff! That was blatant match fixing by the ref. And the Stormers game had an odd ending too. The ref gave a penalty and the play was open, Stormers on the oppositions line. They were getting into formation and only then did the hooter go, which the ref promptly took and ended the game. I always thought if a play is declared it has to be taken. But sour grapes and all that, anyway. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Christopher Duncan quoted: "...that would require my explaining Einstein's Fear of Relatives" Crikey! ain't life grand? And I thought the French were the only ones to accuse the referee when losing a game! :-D Rule n°1: the referee is always right, even if he's wrong.

Cheers. :-) Unless we can make some form of 'Robot Ref' in the future this is always going to be a problem. For the life of me I don't know how Tennis, and Cricket Umpires make the decisions that they make. To me its just a blur. The way things are reported is also an age old phenomenon, papers or media are just pandering to the audiences that they have. Sports editorials are probably the worse as they know that the followers are myopic. Thus sports editors know that the more interest they generate in a sport the more secure their job is.
