The Outback Steakhouse is nothing like what we eat down here. They are a blight on humanity. a) We do NOT throw shrimps on the barbie b) we don't even call them shrimps, we call them prawns c) We don't drink Fosters d) We don't cover everything in cheese and/or batter and deep fry it. e) No Australian, anywhere, sounds like the 'Australian' voices you have on your commercials over there. It's almost physically painful hearing a badly done Oz accent. cheers, Chris Maunder (CodeProject)

I agree about Outback. It takes about an hour to get in, the service sucks, and the food is worse. Jason Gerard, Master of Kung Foo

      (A) We don't either. Barbie is a doll. We roll shrimp in a flour/spice mixture cover with an egg/milk mixture then fry till golden brown. Or boil with bay and asstd. spices. (B) Prawns/shrimp same thing . Usually prawns are bigger (C) No but there are some terrible beers down under. Same as in England. Think German when thinking beer. (D) We don't either. We also dont have vegamite. (E) Hey being a Texan I have heard every bad accent there is. Boy its hard to be humble. Just wanted to check with all you Aussies out there. We have a restaurant in the states called Outback Steak House. The ads on the radio have these people with Australian accents talking about all the different food stuffs on the menu. Do you guys have this restaurant in Australia? If so, do you call it the Yank Steak House there? Or, better yet, do they have ads on the radio with horrible Yank accents? Brigg Thorp Software Engineer Timex Corporation

Straight up I have eaten steaks all over the world. The biggest and best steaks served in the world are in the "Breakfast Creek Hotel" in Brisbane. It would be well worth you travelling from the USA to Australia just to sample them. I know this has nothing to do with your original post, But sh*t it's informative and I'm getting my post number up ! Regardz Colin J Davies colin@vmtu.com

Hi Brigg, I'm Australian and have lived in the USA for a year. Firstly in the TV advertisements, the people speaking don't sound anything like Australians. They sound like British people on a holiday, its the Cok-knee accent. As usual, the Outback Steak House is a prime example of Americians having a dream or image of something, the mythology of something which does not match reality. Like the USA myth of democratic free speech, it seems to be a regular feature of USA culture. I went to the Outback Steak House with a friend and basically its just another Steak house. By the way, out ad's on the radio/TV have a lot of USA accents as we get a lot of the ad's from the USA and they havn't been edited. Philip

I think you are pushing it a little to include Toohey's Old in there. Also think you missed including Boag's and Southwark in your list of great Aussie beers. At the moment my company is contracted out to the TAB in Granville, normally I work in Rosebery though.... Coogee bay hotel is great, pity there's little usable public transport round there, need to have a designated driver all the time.... How about you??? I missed Boags? shame on me. I included Toohey's old as a darker option for those who want some body. (it's the only one I can think of that is universally available) cheers, Chris Maunder (CodeProject)
