I'll probably just run XP Professional. I've kept tabs on the MythTV project for quite a while but this particular machine is going to be as much for gaming as anything else. One day when I have the money for an extra box I do plan on giving MythTV a go, but for now I think I'll stick with my Tivo. :-D My current plan is to stick an ATI 9800 Pro All In Wonder in the single AGP slot and then possibly add a second fan "card" into the only other PCI slot. This should work well as it will be directly facing the video card. I guess we'll see. It's got overclocking built-in but it's only marginal support. It's doesn't let you tweak the CPU core voltage or the PCI/AGP speed... only marginal CPU overclocking. As far as customization goes, I'm planning on a couple of cutouts and led's (blue)... as someone already suggested. I have a "logo" for my little internal company which I plan to cut into the top. I'm excited about it. I haven't made the final choice on hard drive or CPU, but the memory can only be up to PC3200 (400) so it will probably be PNY or Kingston.

I just purchased the first portions of my new home system, the ABIT Digidice. Basically it's just an ABIT motherboard (IS-50) with a cooling system including a CPU fan going to an external heatsink and another external fan to disipate heat from the heatsink. The rest is the rather pretty and small case. It's got most of what I want built-in (though I'll be replacing the built-in video with something quite a bit more powerful). Most of the reviews were good and it's waht I've been looking for supporting the latest in P4 (800 Mhz bus) and 2 Gig of RAM. Course I gotta buy all the rest still so it will be a drawn out process. So, I'll be putting in a very powerful video card and a very large harddrive along with the DVD burner I already purchased and I'm looking for ways to add more cooling to an already very small package. You can get a look here: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mobile/display/abit-digidice.html[^] Any suggestions?

Well...about the only mod that I think you could deploy is to implement a blow-hole in it. Basically:

Remove the case so it can taken far away from the motherboard.
Get a very high-volume fan with cage (grill)(Comp-USA carries some)
Get a circular cutting bit and drill a hole the size of the fan opening.
Drill the installation holes to screw on the fan w/fan cage.
Screw fan onto the top of the case and run wires down inside.
Plug into power and make sure all the other fans are blowing IN.
You might have to upgrade any other case fans so that you are
blowing IN more air than you are blowing OUT. This creates
positive pressure within the case and keeps dust from getting
sucked into the guts of your system.

      or a less serious approach:

Remove the case and purchase 10 pounds of liquid nitrogen.
Place the innards within that liquid nitrogen until it's good and crispy.
Pop that bugger back in place and pack all open space with dry ice.
Occasionally open the case to renew your dry ice, and whatever you do
do not confuse wet ice with dry ice or you might have a bit of a mess
      on your hands!!! :suss:

May I recommend Athlon 64 3200+ on K8T880 mobo and coupled with ATI Radeon 9800XT. This will be a top of the line machine and you'll save some money too. And one more thing, get SATA raid ;) Farhan Noor Qureshi

Have you tried setting up a machine for MythTV? It looks pretty cool, but I've never tried it. ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Real Mentats use only 100% pure, unfooled around with Sapho Juice(tm)! SELECT * FROM User WHERE Clue > 0 0 rows returned

MythTv is awesome and has totally changed the way we (my wife and I) watch TV. We have two Nova-T cards receiving UK Freeview on a dedicated 2.6GHz machine with 160G of HDD. It takes a lot of effort to get it installed and running (thanks to my brother, who is a Linux guru), but it's worth it. Sam W

drill a nice big 120mm hole on the side, and stick a fan in, that should keep it cool. and seeing as you will have the tools out, you may as well get urself i nice piece of semi transparent blue plastic (a dark blue) and cut a window in the top, stick the window in, and setup a few blue LED's
