Searching for a job

I am in my final year of a combined Computer Science/German degree and am applying for a job in the IT industry. I just want to know how many jobs did everybody that is in the IT business apply for before they were actually offered a job? :) I am the handsome one in the crowd.

One. Worked for a pittance to get decent stuff on my CV. Salary went up to something reasonable quickly, once I proved myself useful. Could probably have got a better starting wage if I had drawn VB6 dialog boxes for an insurance company but I wouldn't have had as much fun, or as good a CV. Make sure you go for something you think that you will enjoy doing for 40+ hours a week. In the end thats more important than the cash, for me at least. Ryan

A fair amount... somewhere between 5 and 10 (seemingly) good leads. Part of the problem is that one of the places I applied was Digital, and shortly before my first interview, Compaq bought them out. The interviewer promised me there woudln't be any cuts, blah blah blah. Got a second interview. Never heard back after that. Read in the news about massive cuts. Remember, even if you win the rat race, you're still a rat.

Just a suggestion. Keep an eye on the bigger picture and take a job that will look better on your CV later on even if it pays slightly less for now. And my answer is 2. Just to keep you happy. :-D Nothing is foolproof for a sufficiently talented fool - Heard on CP

One.... Actually i got job before gradute, but i leave them one month after working there:-D
Got my first job straight away - in fact when still in 1st year of my HND - was lucky that was the right time.... Once I lost that one was out of work for 3-4 months, went to about 3 interviews, but got cheesed off with agents, so sat down with Yellow Pages. Sent out 30 CVs, and in 3 days had 5 offers. The thing is that I didn't just send CVs. I would get the phone number of the company, ring them, then ask to speak to their personel department, and basically not take no for an answer - if they said there were no jobs, told them would send a CV anyway just in case something caught their eye. Also NEVER send out an unattended CV - always add a covering letter TARGETED TO THAT COMPANY, state that you will call them on a set date to arrange an interview - AND DO SO.... A CV won't get you a job - only an interview, and it's the interview that will get you that job of your dreams....if the employer doesn't like you as a person, then no matter how good you are, they will not take you on...just my opinion of course....
