I picked up a copy of The Wars of the Roses: And the Lives of Five Men and Women in the Fifteenth Century[^] in London a couple of weeks ago. This particular book is pretty fascinating as it's told from the perspective of five people (a nobleman, a gentleman, a priest, a lady and a harlot!) who were actually involved in the conflict. Highly recommended if you're interested in the period. It's pretty scathing of the Richard III Society[^] too...but that's another debate. Right now I'm reading through: Stephen King's "Wolves of Calla" ,Dark Tower V Michael Gerber's "The E-Myth Revisited", and "Bulfinch's Mythology", by ...errrr.,. Bulfinch. Now Mythology could be seen as ancient sci-fi perhaps, The Dark Tower series has some sci-fi elements, and the E-Myth is a how-to guide for small businesses, which unfortunately also has some sci-fi bits to it. ;) (jk. Just about anything by Neal Stephenson, just finished Quicksilver which was very entertaining at least as good as Cryptonomicon. His earlier stuff was more sci-fi like Snow Crash or The Diamond Age both strange / cool. Also, just about anything by Iain Banks, like his Culture series, 'Consider Phlebas', 'The Player of Games', 'Look To Windward', 'Excession', oh heck, they're all good :-D! Check out his web site. And if you're in a mind for some non sci-fi you could do much worse than his very clever fiction, Whit is a good introduction there. enjoy, Stephen Owens Corner Software

The Hyperion series from Dan Simmons and The Mars ( Red, Green and Blue ) series from Kim Stanley Robinson which I really like.

"Time enough for love" is vaugely entertaining...actually, the "Notebooks of Lazarus Long" are the real entertaining part...Heinlein has always been rather long-winded, IMHO... Niven and Pournelle are great, Card got way too philosophical in his sequels, never been fond of McCaffrey. You forgot Adams :) Check out a pair of books by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon and Broken Angels. Very slick. Very neo-cyberpunkish, yet not. Oh, also: Gibson and Sterling Jeremy Kimball
