Remember a while ago someone saying "if you find yourself unable to get through a day with less than 3 or 4 mug-sized doses of coffee, then you're really in trouble"...hmmmm....I can't get through a day without a cup on my desk constantly - equates to roughly one every half hour at most, which based on a 10 hour working day, means that I must be on 20 mugs a day.... Two questions - 1.how much does everyone else drink, and 2. what are the ill effects that I have apparently not noticed with this amount of caffeine in me? I'm a reformed coffee lover/addict. I've always found though that if I had a cup anytime after lunch, I'd be awake in the night and it would affect my sleep greatly. Sadly, like Stan mentioned, I've also discovered that the two cups of coffee that I would normally have each morning was elevating my blood pressure substantially to over 150/90. I now only have a cup about once a week on Sunday mornings and my bp is around 130/75. I know I'm healthier for not drinking it, but I miss it greatly. :(( :(( Chris Meech We're more like a hobbiest in a Home Depot drooling at all the shiny power tools, rather than a craftsman that makes the chair to an exacting level of comfort by measuring the customer's butt. RichardGrimmer wrote: 1.how much does everyone else drink Well, 2 mugs in the morning, and between 1-3 cups of double espresso in the afternoon. I always have a bottle of water beside my desk, so I only drink coffee when I feel I need one... or two... or else  I prefer espresso, because my stomach likes it more.

I drink around 2 or 3 cups a day (on a total of 500~600ml/day), but in small portions. Take in consideration that brazilian coffee is tipically very strong, like an expresso coffee. Used to have 8 or 10 mugs. Am down to 3 maybe 4 and they are all before lunch. A coke with lunch and that usually the end of caffiene intake for the day, else I stay up all night :-)

I'm an addict and there's nothing I can do about it. Infact i was complaining about it on CP about 3 days back. I missed my cup in the morning and had the worst possible morning of my life..headaches,yawns,dry mouth and other such niceties. Long term effects...my blood pressure is high and I've been advised to quit but can't. Am about on 4 mugs a day which is lower than what I was on before the BP diagnosis " Invading armies can be stopped but nothing can stop an idea whose time has come " - Voltaire

RichardGrimmer wrote: Isn't it true that tea has more caffeine than coffee when made strongly That may possibly be true, but it makes me feel a lot better about myself knowing I'm off the coffee intake:~. Even if tea has be same or more caffine than coffee, I still feel as if its more healthy. A bit like switching from regular to light ciggies (they both kill). ;after all, drinking tea has a better health image around here than grudgy coffee drinkers. RichardGrimmer wrote: 1.how much does everyone else drink, and 2. what are the ill effects that I have apparently not noticed with this amount of caffeine in me? I used to drink 4 - 8 pots a day. Definitely not healthy. Now I manage with only one pot in the morning, a vast improvement. Dehydration is a much overlooked effect of excessive coffee consumption; abdominal pain is another. I've heard, too, that caffeine is also associated with the formation of fibrous cysts in various parts of the body - not a problem I've encountered yet, but one I'd definitely prefer to avoid. It's worth keeping in mind that caffeine is an alkaloid, a relative of strychnine - a deadly poison used to kill rats. The toxicity of caffeine is very low, but in large concentrations it is likely to be quite damaging over time. Will Build Nuclear Missile For Food - No Target Too Small

I can't handle coffee anymore tho i LOVE it... stomach probs. drop coffee has the most caffeine per cup then espresso with about 3/4 of drip. then tea with about 1/2 of drip. then cola, pop, etc at a LITTLE below tea. At least my stomach can HANDLE 2 cups of tea each day. Thanks....I was reading your post and realized that I drink more coffee than water in a normal day!!! I reach out for the coffee cup instead of the water almost involuntarily....Now I'll be more careful... Pia "Don't try to out-weird me, three eyes. I used to drink 20 cups of tea or coffee a day. Got it down to about 8 now. I did not have any health problems but something told me 20 was just asking for trouble. For a week or two I felt like crap (went cold turkey to see what it felt like) but then it was all fine. When I started drinking again it tasted good but 8 a day I have stuck to. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Christopher Duncan quoted: "...that would require my explaining Einstein's Fear of Relatives" Crikey! ain't life grand?
