But who could ever forget, the 1972 release of Signetics' Write-Only Memory (WOM) pg1[^] and WOM pg2[^]?:-D [EDIT] I found more information on the actual development process behind creating the WOM - a turning point in the evolution of computers as we know them today. This is a report on the R & D[^] that went into creating the product, prepared in 1973 from the developers' lab notes. A most remarkable achievement! Apart from the date and the 1GB limit - are we all sure this is a hoax? Isn't Google offering a webmail service actually a really good idea (how many people loathe hotmail, yahoo mail, etc.). It seems like a weird April Fool joke 'cos so many people will actually be disappointed if it isn't true! It's not like the joke I heard on the radio this morning about Yorkshire water changing their supply to "diet tap water"! Or the Slashdot story about using carrier-pigeons to carry bandwidth!
