Wow! What a fantastic application! Just seen the screenshots and have a few questions: 1. Can you tell me where you get your real-time stock quotes from? Is it a webservice? If so, how you use that webservice? 2. Where do you get your charting information from? Are they real-time also? 3. How do you receive chart information and then actually compose them? – Does charting information come a stream which you then use GDI to compose them? 4. Is this a client/server application – or am I hitting simple webservices? A great application, downloading it now!

Thanks! :rose: I use Yahoo as a source for stock quotes. For example, this link[^] contains a real-time (or as close to real-time as Yahoo can provide) quote for IBM. I use CNN/Money (actually BigCharts) to retrieve stock charts. For example, here's[^] a link to a customizable chart for IBM. TakeStock uses several providers (based on my Web Resource Provider[^] article) to encapsulate access to this and other information, allowing me to plug in alternate information sources without having to modify the client application. /ravi My new year's resolution: 2048 x 1536 Home | Articles | Freeware | Music ravib@ravib.com

Version 0.6? I always find it interesting with applications that have versionnumbers less then 1.0. I guess it's because they are not complete or something... :~ - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" ShotKeeper, my Photo Album / Organizer Application[^]

Wasn't ShotKeeper like that for awhile? Now you have released what you consider to be the first stable and usable version for normal folk. Everything before it was for hitting on ideas and working out major bugs. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Christopher Duncan quoted: "...that would require my explaining Einstein's Fear of Relatives" Crikey! ain't life grand? ShotKeeper started at version 1.0 Aplha ;) Then a couple of betas that people tested on, and finally a final version :) BTW Paul, version 2 (which is in beta now) supports psd, so you might be interested ;) - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" Anders Molin wrote: I guess it's because they are not complete or something... Exactly. But you bring up a good point - pre 1.0 numbering forces one to anticipate when the app would be considered feature complete (i.e. 1.0). It's more convenient to version it 1.0 Alpha xxx as you did with ShotKeeper. /ravi My new year's resolution: 2048 x 1536 Home | Articles | Freeware | Music ravib@ravib.com

Maybe they think it's marketing spam, and are jumping to a conclusion without bothering to read the message. From the web site TakeStock doesn't modify the Windows registry, and doesn't create or modify any files in the Windows or Windows system folders. All data is maintained in the files TakeStock.db and and TakeStock.ini, located in C:\TakeStock. Now that has to be a first for a Windows program!

But thats not always possible, what if you wanna make it possible for a user to doubleclick on a specific filetype, and open it in your app? Then you need to make changes in the registry ;) Oh BTW, where do you save the xml-files which holds the settings? - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" It's also why I don't enclose my freeware in an installer. /ravi My new year's resolution: 2048 x 1536 Home | Articles | Freeware | Music ravib@ravib.com

I used this app from 0.2 release. ;) I hope you remember my earlier mails about this application. On the same note, why don't you write an article about this application and publish at CP in Tools[^] section ( no need to release the source code). That way you get wider audience. I voted 5 to make your post look red. ;) BTW, looks like you haven't fixed your 'HowStuffWorks Offline Viewer' :sigh:

Then rename the file extension but keep the content the same. What do you think .config, .rdf, .rss, and more file extensions are? XML files. Besides, a "settings" file is not something you really double-click on. It users want to hack their settings with a UI, then they're typically on their own.

Ahaem, do not think I'm that stupid! I talked about 2 different things, the one was that if you wanna enable the user to doubleclick on a filetype to open your app, you need to modify the registry, the second thing i asked was where he is saving his xml-settings file. - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" Ahaem, do not think I'm that stupid! I talked about 2 different things, the one was that if you wanna enable the user to doubleclick on a filetype to open your app, you need to modify the registry, the second thing i asked was where he is saving his xml-settings file. - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" You're the one who mentioned double-clicking on a settings file, something not typically done since the application is supposed to provide a UI for customization. Who cares if the extension has an association in the registry for it? Do .config files after installing the .NET Framework / SDK? (only after VS.NET) They have an associated icon but no supported verbs. Do .manifest files (also XML)? They also have an icon association but no supported verbs. A "settings" file is not really a document to be opened and should not be treated as such, so use whatever format you want.

Then you need to make changes in the registry Oh BTW, where do you save the xml-files which holds the settings? Where does I mention doubleclicking on the configfile? doubleclick on a specific filetype, thats not a configfile I'm talking about...
