In a test machine, I've tried to upgrade an already running Win2K to WinXP and I've discovered that the new version doesn't support the some hardware... :omg: :omg: The report System Compatibility ha reported : 1) 3Com BCAITDI DMI TDI 2) Logitech Mouseware Drivers 3) Microsoft NETBEUI Protocol Driver and more and more. Bloody hell, the mouse driver as well, not the micky mouse but the Logitech... I was told that the new OS supports more hardware (the most) :omg: :omg: :omg:

Ouch! Don't install XP on any of your vital machines. Treat XP like a pre-alpha OS. Install it on a play-machine and play with it. Wait till they release SP1 and SP2 :-) Nish Sonork ID 100.9786 voidmain

It's your current drivers it don't support. XP works fine with a Logitech mouce, just not with Win2k drivers. - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"

That's more interesting 'cos my previous upgrade (from 4.0 to 5.0) could still use NT4 drivers I'd supposed anyway that some major changes (like the one you stated ) could be applied to a major version (4 to 5) and not to a minor one (5.0 to 5.1). Why my Win2k drivers are not good for the 5.1 version if they are for the 5 ? :omg: :omg:

Totally with you on this Anders. Installed (fresh clean install) XP the other day and so far so good. Nothing major but all the little interface improvements really do add up and make life easier. No hardware issues either :) regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa Do you Sonork? Better count me in. My XP install is working great too and that includes the beta .NET too. Michael :-) p.s Nish, how about reducing the font-size of your sig. It is a tad annoying at that height.

I've just installed XP this week and overall I'm very impressed so far. I had the complaint about Logitech drivers and some other stuff. In the end I did a clean install to a new partition and everything worked fine. Easiest Windows install since 3.0. XP doesn't support Netbios from what I understand. I did have a complete crash in the VC++ Debugger today and I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. I couldn't get Task Manager to do anything usefull and had to hit the Reset button. Never had this happen in W2K, so it is a bit of a worry. I've noticed a few other small strange problems as well. But I have to say that I just luv XP.:) Neville Franks, Author of ED for Windows. Still annoying... :-D Why not just leave it at normal size? It is like pop-under adverts. Whether you pop the advert ontop or under it does not matter, people will either click it or not. Same with your signature, if you make it big it won't help, people will either read it or not. Right now it just is more annoying. my 2 cents regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa Do you Sonork? Here's number 2. I've been running XP since beta 1 and have had no problems except for some sound card funk, and it's funky on Me as well anyway. Actually, count me in as another one who's running XP and likes it. I would choose it over W2K any day. As far as drivers go, make sure you have the latest ones. I know logitech has new ones up, I'm running with a logitech wireless and have absolutely no problems. As far as netbeui goes, I personally don't think that is such a big loss. I use TCP/IP drivers for everything anyways. Netbeui just caused me more problems in the end. Extra packets on my wire, not routable, etc.... Good luck, Nick.

Use it... Like it? Well, it is ok. Some things I like, some things I don't. But since I use my computers for work/play and not as a life long partner, I really couldn't give a rat's ass about some of the things I don't care about. It works, it gets the job done. I agree that if you do a *clean* XP install, it usually works well. If you do an upgrade, though, all bets are off! The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Paul. I don't want to disturb you, but since XP is an operating system (sistema operativo) and a system, in Spanish is a masculine noun, you should say EL XP. :-O By the way, it's good to see some other language in this "most Aussie" lounge.
