Hi ! I'd like to buy an iPod, or a similar product (but I'm not aware of any other similar product). I want at least 20Go of hard drive space. Any recommandations ? Is the iPod the best product I can find ? Jerome

Jerome Conus wrote: Is the iPod the best product I can find ? yes. but what are your criteria ? how do you plan to use it ? I have the 3rd generation iPod for about a year now, and I'm very happy with it. The 2 things that are not perfect are : - The "Remote" clip is shitty, pretty much doesn't clip or hold on to anything. - The Battery Life is on the short side; but for daily use, where I have it plugged in at the office and at home, and commute/gym for about 3, 4 hours per day, it's perfect. the only time I wished it had more battery, was when I was on vacation, I had to "manage" my use of it

I was looking into this recently as I wanted to be able to shift around 3 GB of data from my office to home pc on a regular(ish) basis. One that interested me was the IRiver: it got good reviews, but it would be nice to hear if anyone has used it. Debbie

I just got a Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra[^] a couple of days ago and I'm very satisfied so far. I has a 30G hard drive and USB 2.0 and the rest of the goodies. It's a bit larger than the iPod but I really don't care. The iPod 40G was US$500.00 and this one was US$250.00. I think the choice was obvious (at least for me - I don't have the "mac" spirit that makes me overpay for the "looks") Another good option is the iRiver H140[^]

Oooh, ooh, me too!!!! Except I got the 60Gb version (which I've filled already :-O). I can also definitely recommend Notmad Explorer[^] as a replacement for Creative's software, especially after (I think) it vaped the tags in about 1/4 of my WMA files. Anyway - count that as recommendation #2! Stuart Dootson 'Java, Basic, who cares - it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippy cr*p'

Being able to use it for exchanging quite large amount of data is something which interests me. But for such amount, the iPod and it's Firewire interface seems more usable. Is the iPod the only one which features a Firewire adapter ? Jerome

That's a distinct disadvantage for me at work as we have such archaic kit :( My pc at home has it, but none at work that I have easy access to. I'm looking for usb 2. Debbie

i love my iPod (20G). don't know anything about any others, but there's nothing about the iPod that i would change - except maybe the sealed case/battery issue. but i figure after 2 years, when the battery finally dies, i'll be ready for a bigger model anyway. I have the IRiver H120 and love it. The navigation took some time to get used to but shouldn't be too much of a problem. My wife loves it too, and she is not the gadget freak that I am and she picked up the navigation up pretty quickly. I have used it to transfer files to/from work with no problems. I have no complaints. If you would like to know specifics, let me know.
