    so i thought id try to set an old one up and see how it compares ... after 5 re-installs to get things how i want (im not good enuff with linux yet to go in and hack the conf files) i must say its looking good altho windows it sure isnt i'll report as it progresses :)

      Which "Flavour" of Linux are you running, and just how "old" is the laptop.. (details please) ~Mike Stanbrook

          :laugh: yah i know but its happier now it doesnt have to try to run windows xp ... that made it have heart failure quite often its a p2 @ 266MHz with 160mb ram & 4gb hdd shame

              I would never install this thing on my old laptop. :laugh: (it is something like this[^], but it has two floppy drives instead of FDD and HDD)

                  ummmm like i said below.. p2 @266MHz with 160mb ram & 4gb hdd 1024x728 tft with 2mb video card (an hp something 4100) os is debian 3 running afterstep as the window manager and apache / php / mysql its a sweet linux dev machine :)

                    Try gentoo, stage 3. Also for the desktop you could use FVWM, or Fluxbox. -Steven Hicks

                      XP (Home edt.) runs "quite well" on 200 MHz. Imagine that. With fancy services turn off, it runs better then Win2K on same box. Mike M WinInsider.com - News for Microsoftonians
