Hello world, I was thinking about updating my BIOS but I have read so many things on the internet about the risks of failure when flashing the BIOS memory. I have AWARD update program but I'm not quite sure whether I should proceed. Does any one know if all these risks are true? Thx

The warnings the come with the software are pretty onerous, but I've flashed maybe two dozen systems over the last two years and have yet to have a failure. I just had to flash the wireless router I bought back to a previous version of the firmware to overcome a compatibility problem too. I thought that was a little weird, but it worked. I have flashed a lot of systems, and it have always worked just fine... But, if you get a power failure when updating the bios, it might get unusable. - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"

Hi, yesterday I flashed my AWARD BIOS from Revision 1004A (ASUS A7M266 Board) to 1005 because the 1004A doesn't support AMD XP CPU's. Besides the fact that I needed a non-XP CPU to be able to boot and flash there were no further problems... CU Max

Damn it - if it isn't BT, it's SWEB causing all the problems. If only Microsoft were in the utilities business... This happened to me with a PC Chips motherboard as well. The funny thing was I aborted the installation when it asked if I really wanted to update the BIOS. I backed out as it reported incompatible descriptor strings (but turned out to be the correct BIOS). Even though I aborted it had butchered the installed BIOS. I will never deal with them again. All other BIOS upgrades have worked a charm. Michael Martin Australia mmartin@netspace.net.au "Don't belong. Never join. Think for yourself. Peace" - Victor Stone
