I was at my brother's house today and noticed something very strange about IE 6 in his Win XP box. It only allows one instance to be run! So if you visit a site that displays a pop-up ad, the ad replaces the main window. And with the google pop-up blocker enabled, guess what? The whole thing closes! It's nasty stuff and I couldn't figure out what was causing it. I tried installing the latest IE updates and nothing changed. Has anyone had this problem and know of a solution? Thanks! Alvaro

What?!?!? That sounds totally wrong. Just wrong. I'll bet he has some other program running that is messing with his browser. I can't believe MS would make that a feature of IE6. But then again - they did create an FTP server that doesn't know how to deposit users into a home directory based on their username.......

Tools/Internet Options/Advanced - uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts." That should fix it. Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.

Nope, I tried that. It's not about shortcuts. It's about only one IE instance being able to run at a time. If I double click on the IE icon twice I should get two separate IE instances. Instead, the first instance is killed when the second one appears. X| Regards, Alvaro

try running adaware and see if it goes away, this usually might be caused by some spyware. Adaware[^] Cheers, Kannan

Dang! I know I've heard about this before, and seen a fix for it, but I was hoping it would be a simple settings solution. This is definitely not normal behavior for IE6 - have you tried the Restore Defaults button on the Advanced tab? If that doesn't do it, you probably have to meddle with the Registry settings. Running AdAware may be helpful, too; it's certainly worth a try. Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.
