KILL the PAPER!
-
I have plenty of papers everywhere and i hate it. Thus i decided to bye a scanner and to scan all my documents. But here is a little problem ... - It puts each scanned in a separate Jpeg file. What is the use of it if you have a 50 page document where you want to comment each page ???. Can i put it automatically inside word ?. - The file contains teh whole crappy page. I can not even delemet a region to scan (Like i have made a little schema or a long. I want just to get the logo, thus why can't i simply drag a region with a pincel around it and make the supid software save only everything inside this region. Ths for advices. Anton. You need OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. That should be able to convert your paper documents into Word or PDF or text or something. Most scanning software allows you to specify the region or the page you're interested in too, so I suspect you've just got poor software.

In order to have your scanned document show up as a Word [or other text format] document, you'll need an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) program. In my experience, most scanners usually include one in their packaged software. If yours doesn't try googling for "OCR Windows", that should yield some results. As for selecting a region to scan... all of the scanner software that I've ever used allowed me to limit my scan to a particular rectangle. Since the scanner interface program is usually provided with the scanner, have you tried looking at the scanner's manual or help? I'd be really suprised if this functionality was missing from a modern scanner. Hope that helps a bit. :) --Jesse

I have an OCR, but this is not what i need (And i dont think an OCR can recognize my writing while i cannot :)). What i need is it to take the page an to paste it automatically into lets say a word document. The i can gop to the word document and add whatever annotations I want. Also my scanner have at rectangle feature, but this is not what i want. Suppose i have a page and in the middle of the page i have draw a diargam. I take a red pencil (so it looks different) and surround my diagram on the paper. I then take the page, put it in my scanner, click OK and the resulting selected region would be put direcly into my word document. I can then go to my word document and add any text (basically used for the search criteria). Only Absolute Power and Absolutely No power matters. The rest is slavery.

HAHAHA_NEXT wrote: And i dont think an OCR can recognize my writing while i cannot You didn't make it clear in your OP that your documents were hand-written, which is why we both suggested it

You might have to shell out some money. Some mid/higher end all-in-one devices (e.g., print/scan/copy) can do what you want. They have a multi-page scan feed so you can just scan in a bunch of pages into one big document if you want. "Fish and guests stink in three days." - Benjamin Franlkin

I'm confused as to how would you like the page to show up in Word. The way I see it [and I may very well have a limited view here], both examples of what you're looking to do would have to be done in one of two ways. Either a sophisticated OCR program would have to translate your handwriting into individual characters and add them to the text of the document, or an image of your handwriting would have to be scaled and embedded into the document. The first option is probably not practical today for the casual user. Given the handwriting recognition in tablet PCs, I'm guessing that there are OCR programs advanced enough to decipher your handwriting with a good degree of accuracy. On the flip side, I'd imagine that they're not quite affordable just yet... but that's only a matter of time. :) The second option is possible with the software you've got. It just requires you to perform the embedding. You could probably even write a Word macro to launch the scan software and automate the embedding. --Jesse

I find paper everywhere still more convenient than jpegs everywhere. The relief of tearing a paper and throwing it into the basket can not be achieved for a jpeg, whatever your choice of dele and flushing sound/animation. the other postst probably will have taken care of the technical issues, that are solvable, but far from the heart of the problem.

My HP scanner came packaged with an OCR program that stores multi-page docs in PDF format. Check their website - maybe you can steal a copy from the Support downloads page.:-D Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.
