I got involved with alcohol (sounds sinister doesn't it?) when I started working at a bar at about 18. Well I was a lost cause from that point on ;) My first real drink was a double Stoh Rum depth charge (pint glass, no wimpy tumblers), man that was BAD shit! Plus my mom (yes, mom) encouraged me to drink, said I was too shy and "good" about it. I mean she didn't advocate heavy drinking, just enjoying it and loosening up a bit (I thought alcohol was the devil when I was young. My best friends mom died from it when he was 14 and his dad was no better off, pretty hectic stuff.) I don't regret that I started drinking, nothing wrong with it in moderation. In Durban (which has the largest concentration of Indians outside of India) I knew a lot of Indians and boy did they drink. They got plastered on only a few drinks but that did not stop them. As I work away in London 4 nights a week I eat in restuarants on each of these nights and so drink during and after my meals. I then return home at the weekend and drink very heavily on Friday and Saturday nights when I go out with friends. Sunday I have a pub lunch (again with beer) and Sunday night is the pub quiz :) What I find interesting is that the recommended weekly allowance is something like 20 units of alocohol. This amounts to 5 pints of premium lager. I calculate that in an average week I consume around 40 - 50 pints of premium lager plus wine plus spirits. Liver transplant, anyone? Is that excessive? I've always drunk the same ever since I was about 17. Even when I wasn't working away, I'd still either go down the local most nights and if not I'd have 4 or 5 beers watching Tv at night. Helps me to wind down. Well my alcohol consumption depends on my week... I dont normally drink during the week unless : 1) I have had a really hard day and need one or two to wind down 2) I have made a really nice meal that just screams for a nice Cabernet Sauvignon 3) Friends are coming over to watch the Hockey Game...then it is unavoidable to drink beer... Weekends are another story all together....usually out at least one night (usually Saturday) with all my friends having probably 1 or 2 too many.... :cool:

I don't like beer so much, find it doesn't taste so good... However, mixed drinks are good, as well as Smirnoff Ice... have any of you tried it?? Quite yummy. It's Vodka and lemonade, or another fruit. Made some at home before too. Although, it doesn't take much for me to feel tipsy! Even though my uncle made me taste whiskey when I was like... 13! You would think that my tolerance would increase over the years... Maybe a couple more years, since I'm only 21.... But I blame my low tolerance on my small frame and Asian blood (I turn red pretty fast :)) Melissa
