A lot of work today, but only support mainly. Got a server that isn't working anymore. It's an SQL server system with the database spread over 4 HD of 80 Gig each. This system belongs to some idiots and we have to do some maintenance at least once a month (always stupid stuff). So the server got back today. First thing I noticed is that 2 screws are missing at the back of the case. Anyway, I power up the system, and it seems that HD 4 (secondary slave) is not detected. So I open up the case and notice that the power cable of this disk is unplugged. So stupid. So I plug it in, reboot and everything works again. Now, I am known to be a little naive, but you will not make me believe that the power cable unplugged itself during transport or something, taking 2 screws from the back of the case with it. So why do they insist they didn't open it? Beats me. I've put a sticker on the back of the case so that it's impossible to open the case without tearing the sticker. I would just love to tell them they are idiots to their face, but they probably would stop paying... ----------------------- New and improved: kwakkelflap.com My second CP article: MAP files[^] "Hey, Eddie, can I pour you a beer?" "A little early, isn't it, Richy?" "For a beer?" "No, for stupid questions."

Even though I've seen RAM chips wiggle their way out of a socket over time due to expansion and contraction, you'd never convince me that a drive's power connector could do that without some (human) intervention. I've had to use pliers in a few instances as the connector would not give up! Without accusing anyone, you can tell the customer that the box has been tampered with and leave it at that.

I've had to use pliers in a few instances as the connector would not give up! Indeed. I've been scared sometimes to break the drive or connector when trying to unplug the power cable. These things are pretty darn good at staying connected. DavidCrow wrote: Without accusing anyone, you can tell the customer that the box has been tampered with and leave it at that. Whatever we tell them is fine by them. As long as we don't accuse them, they are happy to pay, and happy that we resolved the problem in such short notice. ----------------------- New and improved: kwakkelflap.com My second CP article: MAP files[^] "Hey, Eddie, can I pour you a beer?" My old P3 Celeron CPU disconnected it self ones when I was working. No serious damage was made, but I was surprised. /Jarek As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality. Albert Einstein
