WinXP Pro Upgrade and new install option
-
I upgraded from NT 4.0 Workstation to WinXP Pro and I use the new install option during setup but NT4.0 was still there and multi-bootable I thought the new install option deleted prev versions and all other files on setup. Now I only installed WinXP once yesterday and haven't checked out the upgrade option. Should try the upgrade option? I want all prev files deleted. I usually do a clean install, the upgrades always seem to have some problems (for me anyway). Here's what I did when I installed XP: -Set BIOS to boot from CD. -Insert the XP Install CD and reboot. -When asked about disk partitions, delete the previous boot partition. (You may want to leave the other partitions intact if they have data you want to keep.) -Recreate the boot partition and format NTFS, select this as the install partition. -When asked to reboot, make sure to reset the BIOS to 'floppy first' or something similiar, then continue with the reboot and the installation. -Sean ---- "Vigilance With Pride"

The WinXP installation almost certainly does the same thing as Win2000, the "new install" option for which just installs a new copy of Windows irrespective of what's there already. If an existing installation is there, it will quite happily coexist with it in most cases (I have 98 and 2000 on my desktop at home). If you want to get rid of the old installation completely, I'd recommend backing up your disk and reformatting first. There is a quicker but less clean solution however. Just delete the NT 4.0 Windows directory (assuming XP went somewhere else, which seems likely). This will, however, leave behind other NT 4.0 files - notably in C:\Program Files - but you can clean them out at your leisure. Good Luck :) Andy Metcalfe - Sonardyne International Ltd

I'll try booting from the CD and delete the partition. Also when I rebuild the partition can it be more than 2GB and FAT32 Real World Coding: POP& BuyAPop(Money ADollar){...};
