The world's dumbest question

This will forever kill any respect you CPians have for little ol' me, but I have to ask: is there any software that will allow running old DOS-based programs in a window? I'll give a gold star to anyone who can point me to such a thing. NO gold star goes to anyone who flippantly suggests CMD.EXE. :) -Jeff here, bloggy bloggy
Not sure that I am right but I think command.com IS the dos prompt in Win2k or WinXP. The cmd and command are different. Just check the title of the console once you run command.com instead of cmd and you will know. Sonork 100.41263:Anthony_Yio Life is about experiencing ...

I can certainly use these for development projects, and I hadn't noticed the articles before, but what I was after was something to let DOS GUI programs run in a window; I didn't do a good job of specifying what I need! Thanks a lot, though-- these'll be useful. -Jeff here, bloggy bloggy

how about this one? http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/[^]
That's too sweet. My teeth are rotting out of my head. I really need this for a few old business applications, but if I can get MOO2 running in a window, I'll die a happy man. -Jeff here, bloggy bloggy

Actually, I never noticed that-- now I'm not sure what the difference is, but I'm gonna read up. What I am really after is something to run old DOS programs, that hijack the graphics context, in a window, but thank you very much. -Jeff here, bloggy bloggy

Wow, thanks a lot. I never even noticed the release of that one! $129 for all the functionality seems like a pretty decent price, if you ask me. -Jeff here, bloggy bloggy

Wait until you buy VMWare 4.0 and then a week later find out Virtual PC comes with your MSDN subscription. :sigh: regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Christopher Duncan quoted: "...that would require my explaining Einstein's Fear of Relatives" Crikey! ain't life grand? VMWare is way better to me. I heard from a big customer of us that even the Microsoft support team is using VMWare internally :-) -- - Free Windows-based CMS: www.zeta-software.de/enu/producer/freeware/download.html - See me: www.magerquark.de - MSN Messenger: uwe_keim@hotmail.com

That's because they had a VMWare corporate license before they acquired Connectix. ;)

Uwe Keim wrote: VMWare is way better to me. I guess we all are different then. I have used both in my previous job, and Virtual PC is faster and less intrusive on your system when not used. I'll not go back to VMWare as long as I can get Virtual PC ;) - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" ShotKeeper, my Photo Album / Organizer Application[^]
