Neither - I use WindowMaker and no DE because both KDE and Gnome take up such massive system resources that anything short of a new high end PC sucks ass running them. (begin rant) I have tried them on on 4 different machines at work (computers ranging from 350Mhz to 700Mhz CPU's) and on my 1Ghz at home (running natively, off a LiveCD, and in VMWare). All of my experiences have been an exercise in frustration with how shitty the core UI performance is. A 1Ghz CPU should be MORE than enough to have a nice snappy UI with absoultely NO lags. This is not the case. Hell I can run Win98 or Win2K in VMWare (on Win2k as a host) with total system RAM on the host at around 400Mb, and in this mode thigns work fine, a little lag but nothing major - I can even develop in VC6 in vmare! Try running Kdevelop in this fashion and things just screech to a halt. As I said, my system (or a system comparable to it, like my G4) has more than enough resources to provide a great/decent UI experience (or at least a reasonably snappy one). Win2k can do this, OSX can do this, as far as I am concerned linux DE's utterly SUCK at this. (rant over) ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! You can turn off a lot of bells and whistles on low end machines you know. It helps a lot. At least on KDE it does. :) -- Booohoo!

Yeah I am sure I could, but the I just don't feel like farting around with it. And my point still remains - a 1Ghz CPU with ~400Mb Ram should be more than enough to handle a decent UI experience, with readable text. But it's not. ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Real Mentats use only 100% pure, unfooled around with Sapho Juice(tm)! SELECT * FROM User WHERE Clue > 0 0 rows returned

I know they offer two types of licenses. But I don't see how the commercial makes the free one any less free. They've just secured a legal way to ensure that nobody rips them off, which I can fully understand. Heck, even RMS has come out of his tiny closet admitting that Qt is "free". -- Booohoo!
