I took the certification test this morning, signed in, the guy was a little pushy where I signed in. I sat down at the computer took the tutorial, took the test and got a 815 out of 900 (:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D) another guy came after I finished the demographics meet me in the hall handed me the thing, didn't even have to ask for the name (the have cameras monitoring every computer) and said congrads, I collected my PDA and cell, and he offered me a job at the place (it was a test center and PC wearhouse). I was like WOW they are trying to get some clients to move over to Linux (not bad depending on what purpose they have for doing so though). Also after that I went over to tigerdirect and got 512MB worth of ram and a new 80gb hard drive. They had a clearance on 16mb sd cards ($4.99) W00T W00T. Other than that windows threw a fit (BSODs on normal and safe mode booting) at the 512 more of ram and I've finally been able to show the GUI after going though the last good configuration. Linux saw teh ram and didn't complain. -Steven Hicks

Congrats, what kind of stuff was in the test? I've just started sys/adminning my own web-server running Debian, so far seems to be running very smoothly. I did have a second machine running RedHat when they were on version 5 but that was a fair while ago now :) -- Paul "Put the key of despair into the lock of apathy. Sounds like the RAM is flaky and Linux isn't using it  other than that - congrats!

Yep, I tested it with MemTest86 bootable floppy, and it turned out there were errors. Anyways I have to ship it back to them tommorow (ugh), the store is an hour away and a waste of gas just to go there for that. Also when I called the store about it they said they could test it with the disk if sent it. (Tigerdirect-this is teh worst problem i've had with them and their store is impressive). -Steven Hicks

It sounds like memtest found the errors pretty quick, I had a friend that built a new system which he had to RMA the motherboard and cpu so he switched back to his old system which had just been sitting in a closet unused since he built his new system (less than a week) and all of a sudden his system got really unstable to the point it was unusable. He had over a gig of RDRAM (so not cheap) and he never did finish running memtest because he got his new parts before it finished. Matt Newman
